Glad you liked it :)
I am a big fan of the Brigandine series. If you never played the original, check out the Grand Edition (though you'd likely have to find an English patch/emulate it).
If you like this one you might also like tactics ogre.
The original tactics ogre on the Snes was amazing. There's a modern version on steam too, which I haven't played. I think they did some changes to the leveling system which weren't too great.
As I've said, repeatedly, this game is deeper than the cpu can understand, which sucks kind of, but the many different ways you can build to dominate... just kinda grab what you get and play it out... is pretty cool.
I'd play Brig as is with diff map, more modes, more customization. I felt creative mode was kind of a let down.
TO is def a classic strategy, classic characters, classic story. I don't really compare it to this. You're right, though, the original leveling of... grab a unit at lvl 1 after rolling it for awhile to get certain stats (to hope they can hit break points and class early) then go to training mode and hit people from behind over and over haha. YIKES.
I wonder if this game, in terms of balance and diversity, isn't better, tho.
I liked TO's height system, archers were OP. Get that long bow and shoot like 4 panels out of range from height. That's one thing this is missing. Otherwise, the unit types and all, IMO, just allow for more play styles.
Permadeath and death altering the story, I mean TO is just way different, IMO. This is kinda more like Dragon Force with the castles and unfort the cpu doesn't really play the 'castle conquer' game well. Yet another thing the cpu fails at doing.
But this game is sweet. I would def want more. Was surprised to see it ported at all, so who knows!
Def would like a way to make it more challenging without just boosting the enemy.
