If you want to play the original I know for a fact you can set it up on an android and play it on a app called ClassicBoy: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.portableandroid.classicboyLite&hl=en_US&gl=US
You have to put a little research into how to get all the pieces working.
Kind of a grey area but considering how old the game is I don't think it's a problem
Played both, imo its pretty much the same as far as I am concerned. Art style is different of course. I prefer this version to the old one.
One cool addition is the challenge mode. In challenge mode you can use any knights you have unlocked. They all start at level 1 and some of them grow a bit different from the story mode. Its not drastic, but its still a nice touch. Also a great opportunity to multi-class everyone. The only negative is that you have to finish story mode at least once to unlock it. Its not a horrible requirement, but I hate it when games lock fun modes behind 40 hour slogs. Its a dumb design that gets replicated everywhere...
I didn't like that they didn't include 3d cutscenes when your unit attacks like in the fire emblem. They had that feature in the first game but probably didn't add those in due to budget reasons. Just a minor gripe.
A few things from someone that owes the ps4 version
- PC version is getting a new mode that's not in the switch or ps4 version. So imo for me thats a pretty big win.
"As it stands this was one of the few games I replayed long ago. Beyond the basic moving and attacking special attacks could change the battle."
- This game play loop is pretty much the same, there status effects and Terran bonus to be aware of now. Also worth noting you can speed up the game and there is a auto battle feature.
"Sending your heroes on quests could net you equipment, items, xp, or hurt that hero putting them out of commission for several battles."
- Pretty much the same here few differences, quest last for 1 turn so knight comes back on the next turn. Quest can fail and you get just a little xp, quest can be used to levels, get items for knights/monsters, recruit natural characters and monsters, get general items to boost status and class change monsters.
"Holding territory gave you MP which was used to summon. And depending on the areas you held only certain creatures were available. I'm hoping this is a good upgrade."
This is pretty much the same
Same
>Heroes(Rune Knights) lead armies that consist from monsters
>Both knights and monsters gain levels and can equip items
>You can train them outside combat or send them to do quests(that can bring items, monsters or heroes)
>Knights and monsters have class upgrades and levels
>Battles can be fought with 3vs3 heroes plus their monsters
So far is very similar
Now good:
>more options, difficulties and extra mode
Neutral:
>new art style, very stylised but i don't like it
Bad:
>story and characters, either bland or very cartony
>narration is very bad
Hope its modable because core gameplay is nice.
imo totally subjective. I personally like the art style.
I also liked the art style. That's a super easy thing for people to judge for themselves. Just google the game and look at the images.
