I think the people who had a fit were probably completionists. For them it would be bad as they would feel compelled to buy all the pops with codes in order to unlock all the skins. Despite being a bit of a completionist myself I have to say though I kinda like the idea.

How would you scan? This isn't a phone game.
They would need to add some sort of code redemption feature, which would require
1. Making it only apply to newly made Funkos with a new packaging, which screws over people like you who already own that Funko
2. Do that but also make it so you can contact support to get a code for your Funko, which would be a huge PITA for.. no perceivable financial gain

same way other games do stuff link the game to the pop site and then you can use your phone to scan. just like when you use their app to scan your pops to your collection list it wouldnt be that hard to do wwe lets you up load pics to their site and then they get moved into the game. army of two had a site that let you up load pics to make masks that got pulled over into the game it wouldnt be hard to do

Problem with uploading pictures would be the risk of fraud. If they'd do that, they would undoubtably wanna use it to boost sales of the game and the Funko Pops, so they wouldn't wanna have people upload pictures of the same Funko Pop over and over to obtain the skins on multiple accounts. They would need some unique code they can disable after use and I personally wouldn't know if there is already such a unique code on the Funko Pops people currently own.

you wouldnt upload pics each funko box has a barcode you use the funko app to scan it then it brings it up and shows if you have added it to your favs as in owning it or wish list for getting later. it saves the data since you have to make an account. so all you would have to do for the game is link the game account to the funko site account and then if you had a "i own list" it would read what you had already and pull them into the game and then everytime you scanned a new bar code into your site account it would pull it over. it wouldnt be hard to do
