I was fine until that bit... that bugged a lot. Unfortunately that characters comes hard and is "over-acted" and under developed.
Story felt rushed and not a ton of discovery, some deus ex machina in the storyline... it's unfortunate. but yea... mid, sadly. Could have been great, even as this skeleton I think.
Well 2 had a Deus Ex Machina played straight (Sajuuk, in classic 1.0 HW2 it was the only thing that could kill the ADW platforms in the last mission but was hopeless if anything even sneezed at it from the supercapital class).
DoK had the orbital Ion cannon as a Deus Ex Machina.
HW1 is absent them.
HW: C has a subversion of 1 (the siege cannon).
Excellent points ... "BRING SAJUUK TO BEAR! BRING SAJUUK TO BEAR! BRING SAJUUK TO BEAR!".
I -hated- that mission.
I barely remember HW:C... but just the "whole everyone's infested storyline, enemy ship can slide through normal space using hyperspace and you need to wak-a-mole it" bit I didn't really care for.
Home world 1 though.... man. Played it when I was 12 and it was just awesome. It definitely has a lot of nostalgia painted over it, but mission 3 when she says "Kharak is burning", the planet being engulfed by a firestorm in the background, and the musical score while you save the cryo+trays- had young Khan hook, line, and sinker!
DoK was fun, too.

They invariably do however and every time I'm taken out of the experience and I just feel sad it had to be this way for some paper stain to check a few boxes for ESG money.
