Do I need to play 1 and 2 before 3?

I know they are remastered but I really dont want to play them as Graphics will put me off. Is it ok to play 3 and not 1,2?

You don't have to play either 1 or 2 because 3 has a recap you could watch... but I'd recommend playing them anyways. The graphics for the remastered versions aren't that bad and the gameplay and story is a lot better.

Can you please explain, so HW Remaster collection has HW1 and 2 (og and remaster) What is Desert of Khalai? Is it something like 2.5 (not exactly 2.5 but I hope I am making sense) before the release of 3?

Everyone can have the own opinion but you dont need to play the remasters to enjoy HW3. I think the graphics of the remasters are still quite decent however homeworld 3 is definitely a step up if you have a good graphics card.

As a newcomer to the series i think you will enjoy hw3 on its own. Its kind of the most beginner friendly. Homeworld veterns dont like hw3 because it does several things worse than hw 1 and 2. I also am dissappointed by a number of things, but i doubt these things will effect you as a new player.

Deserks of Kharak is their rendition of a prequel for HW1. It takes place on the planet surface, with the "mothership" basically a huge aircraft carrier on tank treads. but it's mostly a 2D land-warfare game (everything from jeeps to tanks to mobile artillery) with some aerial elements thrown in.

Order is Deserts of Kharak (you can get it most days cheaply on GOG), Homeworld 1 (part of remastered), Homeworld Cataclysm (GOG has it under Homeworld Emergence), Homeworld 2 (part of remastered) and Homeworld 3.

Homeworld Remastered has good graphics. They won't put you off. H3 has better graphics, but not by much.

To a degree, HW Remastered has a fair few more graphics glitches that I've noted (mostly things clipping together).

Yeah I guess I haven't noticed. However, in comparison to the original releases, it's a significant upgrade.

Only because salvette doctrine in HW1 R works on most things.

Yes you can steal the hell out of everything. My LP was filled with instances of it. Had 10-20 raider corvettes and I don't know how many array frigates by the garden :D.

You don't need to play 3 at all. 2 is also a bit of a dud IMO but it's definitely a lot better than 3
