Yep... dumping all of their resources into War Games was one of the biggest mistakes they made. Imagine if that amount of effort had gone into the campaign instead.
Also all the money , time and effort poured into cgi that noone ever asked for.
All the money poured into denovu.
All the money on consultants
All the time and effort put into "terrain" in a space game where nobody has ever complained about empty maps in hw1,2 or cata.
I wish you could play wargames pvp. The NPC objectives would still give you artifacts that boost your ships. This would be similar to Warcraft 3, where you got bonuses for harvesting creeps.
Sadly, the devs chose the worst way of presenting both Wargames and Skirmish.
Wargames is limited to a very redundant Co-op mode and skirmish is limited to only 2 factions and few maps.
The only good thing I heard for wargames is that the mod community added motherships to wargames. It would have been better if that was an option in the official version.
It's a Warhammer Dawn of War 3 situation, which had the dumbest campaign and story of the series, a critical reception, and was also abandoned by the devs within it's first year.
Just as I would not expect Dawn of War 4, there will be no Homeworld 4.
On an unrelated side note, if you want an amazing game to play over the winter, season I highly suggest Age of Wonders 4 ("AoW4"), it's the best PC game I have played within the last 2 years. Unlike HW3, it has had continuous and ongoing updates, dlc, and dev interaction with the community. It's truly remarkable how many continuous content editions they have made to AoW4, within just the first 1.5 years of release, and there is no sign of them stopping.
Also, the devs frequantly have livestreams, where they answer most questions from chat in real time while they playing the game in real time to demonstrate new features.
For AoW4, Triumph (the devs) retained all creative control over the IP and can't be cornered by the Paradox (publisher) to release anything before it's ready, or festoon the game with microtransactions.
Whilte, AoW4 is the best, other games that may interest you this holiday season:
1. Path of Exile 2 Early Access starts today. People are getting keys for free, or through a very modestly priced supporter pack.
2. God of War and God of War for PC (if you haven't played them before)
3. MK1 and Street Fighter 6.
4. Beyond All Reason, which is Essentially an updated Successor to Total Annihilation, with the most current graphics (Free Game, can download from the official website).
5. Throne and Liberty (good free to play mmo).
6. Destiny 2, which is another one of my favorite games within the last 2 years. I got in at a very good time when most issues had been completely resolved.
7. Space Marine 2
8. No Mans Sky (like Age of Wonders 4, this has continuous content editions and community feedback), it is the best sandbox game, in leaps and bounds compared to it's competition, you can lose yourself in this game.
This.
I remember starcraft 2 , an addictive tower defence mod called squadron td. Its good because althought its Vs ai waves , you still have to beat another team to survival and you can subtely effect them.
Would squad td be as good if it was just your team vs ai waves. Naaah, the feeling of beating the waves is nothing compared to the feeling of beating another team.
Bbi take notes !
Legion TD 2 here on steam scratches that old SC2 tower defense itch from Squadron TD. FYI for that Winter Sale. :)
Wow it does look like squad td. Might have a look at it
