Also that hyperspace window at the end isn't to send em to space heaven, it's to atomize them (remember what that Kalan pirate carrier did to that asteroid? yeah, ♥♥♥♥♥♥ way for Karan to go but eh).
I only used this (and i also did GOG)

basically make sure you have your high resolution and not play on default blocky one + fix the laggy menu, you should have 0 performance problems, it should run smooth. If not then you have something to fix.
The only problem i had with cataclysm was navigating trough empty space, i think there was no way to just use mouse or wasd, but very easy workaround is to double press control groups and there was some other way to fix it too, just play the tutorial and use everything you learn.
Its 1000% worth it, i'm glad initial impression didn't stop me from playing. Just do first 2 missions and if you are not hooked its not for you.
- Karan - gone
- Incarnate - still present in the Galaxy so likely gonna splinter like the Taiidani
- Progenitor Trinity - gone (plothole from HW2 sealed)\
Edit: Considering it after a few minutes, that actually means HW3 did more to fix HW canon post HW2 ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ than HW:R did so we're in a place where we don't have the cores anymore (so more chance to see conflict) and with Karan gone there's less chance we'll be stuck following her or in her wake.
