https://www.moddb.com/games/homeworld-remastered
It's how the whole series survived on for nearly 20 ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ years to begin with before Homeworld 3.
And Homeworld 3 already lined up greater mod support than we had for over 10 years of those 20. I was there when people figured out how to inject shaders via the texture mapping to give HW2 more realistic graphics and I was also around to see the insanity of the Chinese crew on the un-remastered HW2 engine.
Which one? The one that barely survived on the profits of DoK after Gearbox headhunted them post IP acquisition and gave them a shoestring budget to retool Hardware: Shipbreakers into Homeworld Deserts of Kharak or the same company that basically had to ask the archivists in their fanbase if they still had HW1 and 2 source copies as Sierra and THQ were such idiots they lost both?
Those companies?
Yeah thought so.
Awfully strong opinions for a pair of games you barely touched long enough to at most get through the campaigns once before never touching again.
And don't argue, you sniped far worse in that other thread.
There was a push to make RTS more like Moba because this was a trend, nowadays most (space) strategy games are very complex (granted most have X4 vibes).
Thing is devs who made Homeworld 3 did completely miss the mark, they pissed of a die hard community, did miss the current thing with complex games and even if you consider the current gameplay in its streamlined form interesting they didnt put enough content.
Its the trifecta of failed ideas.
Granted calling HW2 more realistic is like calling Master of Orion (Wargaming) as realistic as Aurora 4x but digressing.
Okay, I am curious: What good RTS do you know of that's more complex than this that's still alive? I won't even try to ask you for a recognizable IP that's been active in the last decade noticeably as that'll make you play Dark Souls with your goolies hooked up to a car battery.
The goal here was to just be negative for the sake of being negative. Why? Heck if I know, I don't have answers to the big questions of the universe, but all I know is that over the last 5-ish years the gaming community has turned completely clownish in expectations with zero grounding in logic or reality, and it's why so many games just get straight review bombed over the tiniest possible infractions now.
Again, I fully understand why Valve never made Half Life 3.
But sure, 200 hours (near 100 myself), enjoy the perma-nerfing of fun and the devs who totally didn't know from day 1 the illegality of selling a product they would, totally without they forewarning from sony, need to make unavailable for everyone who already bought it sans about 68-70 countries.
And very few, if any, have a Z axis.
And they're not RTS if they have 4X (stop using X4, that's a game name =)) and it's a space sim, german one so might be where you're getting confused) as that'll make them lite 4X (Sins of a Solar empire).
Okay? What point are you trying to make? The point I already made that Homeworld is an incredibly niche game even in the bounds and standards of it's own genre?
Now you're just grasping for straws like the dweebs claiming DEI because of a woman on the screen because they didn't play the previous games. 'Finely designed'....lmao, in what regard? Where is the 'failure' in design in HW3? Not having thousands of players online for a niche RTT? Not investing in and paying the upkeep for a matchmaking system for the 200 people online running 5-6 public lobbies?
