Collector's edition with complementary digital download code

Delivery of my physical box was late so I received the following email from Amazon

We were informed by the publisher Gearbox Publishing that the release of the physical collector's edition has been postponed, so the physical game will be delivered to you at a later date. To ensure that you can still play the game on the release date, they have provided us with complementary digital download codes. We will send you such digital code via e-mail to download the full game on the 10th of May.

I redeemed the code sent to me by email and it added the game to my Steam library no problem.

Now that my physical box has arrived, I note that the code inside the box is different. When the Amazon message says 'complementary', do they mean I've been given an extra code and I could, for example, let my wife use the other code, or am I only entitled to use one of the codes?

I wouldn't wish to do anything I'm not allowed to do.

Yes it means you got an extra one for free. Use it.

I mean if you were in a restaurant and they gave you a complementary drink they wouldn't take away the drink you've already paid for. It's extra.

Thanks both. I think I was getting confused by them spelling it 'complementary' instead of 'complimentary'

'complimentary' isn't correct. the code doesn't tell you how good-looking you are.
