Are the engineers able to place mines or not?
I couldn't work out how to do it and it would've been really useful in the defence mission.

that western ramp that you get tasked to hold i after they mention the seismic activity on mission 3 is a good place for them. though i have found that by far the biggest enemies in that mission are those heavy tank terminators. they do more damage in a single shot than anything comparatively. i found that placing strips of AT mines parallel with corridor helped the most. also IMO the AP mines are very weak at knocking out light infantry type terminators. often taking multiple mines to knock out even a single entity, if a dev sees this i would recommend a buff, as they are indeed very weak

You click on button for mines on menu in right bottom corner. Don't click on mines on equipment tab on left corner, this would disable mines and hide button on right menu.

Cheers. I must've been missing this button somehow.

Also, when you deploy mines, if you hold and drag when placing the mines, you can place a long line of them (up to the full amount your squad is holding)...

Would be nice if shift clicking let you lay multiple layers of mines instead of one long line. Also engineer mine laying ability depends on the number of engineers in the team. If you take casualities the number of mines they carry will drop and the time it takes to drop off mines will also take longer.

Game is so irritating, I don't feel in control. Why can't I just control my full arsenal instead of being limited as game plays through. Rubbish !!

Welcome to RTS.
As almost all RTS you start with a few units and the others will unlock during the campaign.

Yeah I know,I do enjoy a challenge but I'm finding this a bit overwhelming. It's very hard game.

If you're unfamiliar with micro managing in rts it can be yeah.

Playing on medium here but with the nerfs/supply patch I might go to hard depending if they're too squishy now.

It can be fun if you play on easy first to learn it possibly then return to whatever difficulty.

Sadly mines are mainly useless outside the one base defense map in the intro.

Since when? Santa Fe, you know and have time to place mines for 10 convoy's worth of vehicles. Road to chihauhau has you guarding 2 chokepoints, perfect time for mines. Vega again has 2 main roads from the enemy camp to your allies, mine them up. Could go on but there's heaps of places for mines.
