Just because games have rules, doesn't mean the most glaring usage of them is the most effective.
You can basically become a god in Morrowind at level 1, doesn't mean that's what the average player does...
By taking what you said at face value, we are in agreement.
Yeah, so the average player obviously has issues with supply limitations.

I still agree with you. I will further specify, that average player has skill issues easily fixable by asking for advice or thinking on tactics.

Inexcusable for the very first major movement on the map. It should be more lenient.

Well, back to the row 1. Game straight up tells you to disband units, once by tutorial and second time by dude.

Except you do. 1st van is the one before the bridge with towed light turret. You can use it for weapons dealer mission. 2nd van is up the river, right in front of the place where you start. There is also armored van on movement base + unarmored van with M20 (idk where I got it, but before movement base, I flanked spoders on the south with it).

Here is screenshot after the mission in question:

You can keep abrams, bradley, stryker and APC. Sell trailers, tanker, rusty hamvee from field, platform(s) (I lost at least 1), vans without anti tank gun, 1 tractor.

I literally show you moment before the first movement. See screenshot? It tells you 4 days left. 1 to nearest base where you can sell vehicles for supplies. Another to integrators. 2 days, right? Now consider that you sold vehicles and got at least 3 more days making it 7 instead of 4.

And yet it's still an issue. Please pay attention to the thread title.

As I said I agree that its issue. Skill issue easily fixable by asking for advice or thinking on tactics.

It interferes with gameplay sufficiently that people are complaining about it. Ergo it should be changed. That's balancing 101

You are not describing balance, you describing ochlocracy - mob rule.

That's a shame, they're synonymous with game design. :V
You can probably halve the number of supply points given in this game and still beat it. Doesn't mean it should be that way.

Correction - with MODERN game design. Where games must be as easy, inoffensive and nondemanding as possible.

You're exaggerating. This game is actually pretty difficult as far as RTS are concerned. I've played all sorts of RTS including Empire of the Ants of all things.

The supplies should still be more lenient at the start.

The supply / geoscape resource system has to get a major overhaul. I have reached the 4th campaign mission and despite having a lot of good will points (purple stuff) because I DID dispand most of my army I can't buy supplies because they don't replenish.

So I end up with a very crippled army (compared to what I had before selling everything), needing ~40k supplies a day. To reach the location of the next campaign mission I'd need just a bit more then I have. I could afford those - but there is nothing left to buy because the settlements don't replenish and there is no "wait a day" mechanic.

At this point I'm locked out of progress in the main campaign with the following resources:
- 14951 good will points (huge, only because I sold a lot of valuable vehicles)
- 16 people (very poor)
- 71141 supplies (basically 1 Bradley, 1 Abrams and 2 Trucks towing an armored carrier and an artillery piece)

It really makes no sense at all - I can't even afford to have one measly fuel trailer / supply trailer in my army because the costs would eat me up. I even sold the fuel truck we got earlier ... And I sure as hell won't sell my Abrams tank because I installed a purple mod on it (missile countermeasures) which I of course can't detach anymore -.-)

"Funny" thing is - If I'd reach the next location I could buy stuff again (until that settlement runs out of stuff).

As my time for playing is limited I ended up hex editing my save to at least be able to keep playing the awesome campaign missions. :steamsad:

tl;dr: game is great, geoscape management is broken - or be prepared to only drive around with one humvee and 2 soldiers.

Yeah, this game is breath of oldschool. At least designwise.

This is the biggest issue, soft/hardlocks. I don't think you should have to go back through potentially hours of missions just to not get locked... X_X
