How to hack?

How are you suppose to hack an enemy when the units don't stop firing at the enemy that is hit with an EMP? I don't see a button to make units stop attacking, which makes hacking seem not really worth it due to how close you need to be in the first place to EMP.

You can disable your weapons(or at least those weapons that can destroy vehicle) by clicking on it.

I suppose that is true, though I guess I feel that with how much work goes into trying to make hacking work. It's just not worth it for an "ally" unit.
