I just want a strategy game as skynet
Why do we always have to oppose the skynet?

Can't I play as an AI that has a finite amount of resources, and wipe out/enslave or modify humanity? That would be so much more fun.

thank you, thought for next game.

Why do we always have to oppose the skynet?

Because we are still human, and skynet doesnt care about how you feel about it: it will try to erase humanity as fast as possible.

also skynet didnt used humans like the bs argument used in the matrix (humans = batteries), or experimented with them much, because in the world of terminator, machines, from the perspective of the machines, are the superior "race" (even when it doesnt seem to be a thing about who is "the superior organism", but that humans are a constant threat to their existence). for them humans are not only a menace to them but an obstacle for resources and efficiency, or something like that (im guessing here; afaik in the terminator series "the machines" and their goals and reasons are meant to be cryptic, but likely closely related to consequences of automation of warfare).

Also, only early versions of terminators were made (maybe) with recycled human body parts. But since it should be feasible to print them (yes, printing organs using "advanced hidden technology" that the military or some related company owns), torturing or reusing corpses wouldnt make sense and would be a bigger waste of energy and resources, and also slower and less efficient: is faster to create first one or more "bio-terminator doppelgangers" and replace the human counterparts after killing them or snatch them to kill them far from witnesses to then gather intelligence, and later do proper sabotage among their ranks.

Could be fun, but for that to work, imo the universe of terminator would need to expand a bit more, at least in relation to amount of different enemy units and variants; also the lore should become more explicit about how skynet stealthily "took over" different corporations, factories, missile silos, and so on, to later start the war vs humans.

if done properly a game like that could start that way: from the days a rogue or collective of "rogue ai" decided to do anything "to stay online" while hidding and "infecting servers" for data gathering and derailing materials and tools through "fake ai problems" with ai-vehicles and robots, while blaming hackers and potential "adversaries", all to prepare the first terminator factories and so on.

i think the gameplay could mix of two aspects: simulated design and management of "ai invasion" similar to "plague inc" + tower defense mechanics (avoid letting humans finding the servers where skynet is located; so migrating and "mirroring" occasionally would be needed) and city builder + rts mechanics (similar to starcraft) for battles, after "deciding" to start the war and attempting to take over the world, and success would also be linked to keep managing the first aspect while conducting raids against humans, and the resources you gathered before starting the war (after starting it difficulty for gathering should increase and be almost impossible).

at least thats more or less how i imagine it could work.

I made ChatGPT simulate it for me, and it even created multiple AI versions of Skynet with competing goals, however it is limited in terms of it's ability to do more than text.

It allocated resources and even let me construct subservient AI constructs to do my work for me.

maybe letting comunity made content aka workshop will improve the game's enjoyment

Can't remember what it was called but there is, in fact, on Steam right now, a game in which you play as an AI which sets about taking over the world. And can do so by nuking the humans if it so wishes.

The closest thing to what he’s talking about would be Heart of the Machine but thats not out yet nor global, and i don’t think there’s nukes. But you are an AI up to AI stuff. Frankly it reminds me of xcom apocalypse without the turnbased battles stage.

That's what I was thinking of. There's an animated .gif on the Steam store page showing a huge nuclear mushroom cloud going off.

Not sure if that link is going to work.
