Where is the supply update?
First off, I am well aware of the fact that the beta has a supply change for story mode difficulty and that you can mod game files to alter it, however... that being said, 10 days ago a dev stated that they were looking to tweak the supply requirements "soon". The supply change on beta is great, but I am very interested in knowing how soon "soon" is, given we're reaching the 2 week point since the announcement was made.

Likely as long as it takes for them to get enough data on the beta branch to determine if the supply fix is too much or too little. They would need to balance it against the army size that people manage to build up to with whatever numbers they figure out.

I think it's a very, very difficult problem to solve, as the game doesn't give you any foreknowledge or guidance on the matter, and it really can't either, as designed, so it's honestly kind of a nearly unsolvable issue. If you give enough for people to be comfortable they're probably going to have way too big of armies, and some will probably still blow the supply budget.

Honestly some tutorial popups that give you some 'recommended army compositions' occasionally throughout the game would be the most helpful.

I can definitely agree that this game could use a bit more in the way of training wheels for the first couple missions, watching my friends play through the game they dont realize they can re-arm ATGM squads inside vehicles like the humvee, and so end up dying to vehicles quite a lot.

As for the issue of having "too big of armies" I honestly think its a self solving issue... my run on the beta, I had a very large army to be sure, but trying to keep tabs on everything becomes almost impossible. My run of Midlands was absolutely chaos... trying to coordinate 7 bradleys and 3 abrams plus dozens of secondary vehicles in a minefield...

You also realize, I think, after trying to do a big army, that getting your troops trained up to higher levels is actually invaluable.

I think it'd be better if the earlier difficulties are more forgiving.

This is how Resident Evil games generally work, lower difficulties are more generous with resources but the game gets stricter as you raise it.

Newbies who have no idea what's coming can play on difficulties with less upkeep while those who play a harder difficulty and know what's coming can manage with the more restrictive supply due to knowing what's up ahead.

There is a discord which they keep things much more up to date than the steam forums. I have heard on their from the devs they believe this week it will be out on the main branch, but that it's not a set in stone prediction.
