Helicopter use and tactics
When i tried using the Huey helicopter, I couldnt get troops to enter or leave the huey, when I unlocked the Blackhawk I was able to load infantry into it, and rappel them onto a building. I wanted to know if anyone could tell me a few things about these helicopters.

1: can Hueys rappel infantry onto buildings? or is that purely for the blackhawk?
2: can you rappel infantry onto any building? or only specific ones?
3: it seems like specific units can shoot at helicopters, while others cant, I'm assuming as a general rule that most infantry and tanks cant, is this correct?
4: Helicopters do not have repair supplies, so Im assuming that helicopters cannot be fixed in mission?
5: Helicopters seem to like making strafing runs, which typically leads them into more groundfire than needed, when stationary, they make excellent weapons platforms, is there any way to tell them to attack a target without making a strafing run?

1) Check the ingame encyclopedia. The Huey can't transport squads.
2) Check the description of the Mercenary (Marauders faction) squad ;)
3) Haven't had much time to check that - so far I had .50, laser snipers and plasma guns shooting at me. Oh and I upgraded my ATGM squad with the steel bird perk - I fear the day the enemies do that, too... :lunar2019shockedpig:
4) Aye, sadly they cannot be repaired when they land :steamsad: (don't get why - their fuel and ammo consumption is so high, this balances itself out on how many attack runs one can fly)
5) deactivate the missile launcher - the machine gun have a different attack pattern (can attack while hovering). Pro-tip: mg attack commands can turn light / medium vehicles into "burning state". Aborting the attack then and letting the helicopter pick targets let him snipe the crew with huge precision (other attack pattern) -> easy to capture ^,^

see at least part of this is flatout untrue...
1: the huey can transport squads... it says 0/7 in the map screen, and you can put infantry inside it... it also works after the latest patch, so its likely a bug..
2: helpful, but also missing the fact that Guerillas, Rangers, and professional marksmen. I do appreciate the pointer though.
5: ive gotten both the blackhawk and huey to fire rockets/atgms while stationary... they just dont like to do it.
(I tried that last trick on the Cartel tank... it took a solid minute, but yes it did work)

fell like Huey is more of a scout you go in you spot the enemy, get your fire power to fire on it and then pull out.

You can definitely put dudes in that huey. I used it to ferry engineers for cheeky mine laying strats.

You cannot repair helis for some reason.

after returning to my test run, you can indeed rappel from a Huey if your infantry are capable of it...

but yes, the Huey definitely seems better as air recon then an assault unit, especcially given its inability to repair.

someone said using the f key with heli makes them fire missiles stationary. i did not test this yet myself

Ok, we need list of units that can papel from choppers.
Ranger and mercenaries are well known.
Can founders infantry do it?
wei270 Mar 12, 2024 @ 11:57pm
no they can't

All weapons in the game has a list of what they can attack.
Bradley default 25mm, the 20mm rotary and the 30mm heavy auto cannon are the most strong weapons vs helicopter, in reverse order.
Atgm anti air takes to long to deploy, the infantry decides to move and takes another long time to fire and them he uses flares. But is still a must have since Oklahoma mission.
In multiplayer people used hk to take down my choppers, I don't think huey or the uh-60 can attack air, I tried with the huey at Oklahoma and it didn't attack the HK.
On most first maps enemy anti air are plataforms only, so, helis are king. On chihuahua it spent all ammo, twice.
Land it near a supply to get ammo and fuel back, do not stay in air unless you have a good reason for it. Just don't forget it in the air, always land after use.
Scout all the map when the mission is finish to find hidden vehicles fast with a heli, before leaving.

Yup, the small heli can shoot while stationary but is a little tricky. First, the heli NEEDS to aline itself with the target, which is hard sometimes as it prefers to look into the closest target. (if you disable the mgs is easier when there is extra targets)
Then you can use the F command to attack and it will attack once before going strafe mode, so make sure you cancel the action immediately. (if you repeat the action fast enough you will shoot 2~3 times before the heli is looking somewhere else.(Because of the strafe behavior)
Also, the range of the missiles is not exactly true while doing this you sometimes have to be a little close, but just a little. (if you are too close it will not work.)

Really useful for killing arty or small stationary vehicles and not run over the whole army.
1. Only Elites like Rangers and few others can rappel in buildings. It works on Huey.
2. ONLY buildings with FLAT roof.

Partisans from Resistance can. And i guess 3 units is whole list. I mean Elites, nobody else.

Well, now that I know that is it the US_COMMANDO tag that makes them rapel from helicopters I can do a full list.

Founders:
Rangers

Resistance:
Militia

Cartel:
Templars

Integratos:
Pioneers

As several hero units that makes no sense to list here. I love that Kondo is called Vlad in game files.

Your info is very wrong.

Kondo isn't Vlad; Kondo is Sintu_character just like how his squad is named ingame. Vlad is the hacker you pick up in the cartel town (flinch?).

And the tag for heli is the perk helirope.

Rangers, founders snipers, guerillas, and mercenaries are the only ones who can rappel from helis.

1 both can.
2 rangers, founders snipers, guerillas, and mercenaries
3 mounted mgs like 50 cal, plasma and minigun (rev 6 terminators use these "mounted" weapons), high caliber sniper, autocannon like on bradley or weapos platforms and spiders, and the occasional anti-air missile
4 unfortunately not, I even tried adding repair supplies to them to no avail. There's probably some setting in another xml somewhere
5 It's clunky, but I usually just keep them in the default "hold ground" stance and manually gauge where to park them to keep their missiles at max range. This is especially important for the blackhawk since its tows have a much longer range than its vision. Just issuing an attack order tends to make the heli hover directly over their target to the point where they can't even use their missiles
