what were they thinking?
as i said what were they thinking taking the name and story of a flopped film that the fandom rejected? this was an opportunity to make a game set in the Main skynet timeline, feature john connor instead of some diversity hire.

It doesn't help that we are in a era where the woke agenda ruins everything (meaning now female centric movies with the male being sidelined).
Therefore Dark Fate was catalogued as a woke movie, which doesn't help for its popularity as the majority usually hate woke movies (just take a look at the state of Disney).

As for myself, it's clear now that we have a Terminator multiverse with multiple timeline:

- T1 -> T2 is the timeline that i consider "by default" where Skynet never existed at the end of T2.

- T1 -> T2 -> The Sarah Connor Chronicles.
It's been a while but if i remember correctly, the futur is constantly changing in this one and like Genisys and Salvation, we will never see the end of this story.

- T1 -> T2 -> T3 -> Salvation is the timeline where Skynet was invented but from scratch by the humans (or maybe there were leftovers in Cyberdine systems but i don't remember this)

- T1 -> T2 -> Dark Fate.

- Genisys

You could add the Robocop vs Terminator timeline from the comics but like the T1 -> T2 timeline, this one is resolved.

There's a timeline for every taste, Dark fate is not one i appreciate and it's the case for many.

And that's why i said that the developpers must write a story as good as Terminator Resistance: This one reconciled many people with the Terminator franchise so they have to do the same with Dark Fate : Defiance to make people being interested in this timeline.

As for me, I will have a "wait and see" approach:
Waiting what people think about this game and maybe buy it if it's good as i like RTS and the Terminator franchise.
But again i find that Legion has less appeal than Skynet so it has to be really good.

how about waiting for the game to come out and judging it based on it's own Merits rather than a film you didn't like that it has nothing to do with but being set in the same universe due to the games licencing

Maybe because the film on which the game is based (IE - The Lore) is garbage.

The OG Terminator (Skynet vs. Tech Com) is what fans want. If this game isn't at least moddable, it will fail.

it's in no way based on the film you don't like besides the licencing but go ahead and complain about how a game you haven't played yet is apparently going to fail because of a film that is no way related to the game besides sharing the licence

name matters when it comes to business so does marketing, people are far less likely to give something called dark fate a chance than something akin to the first 2 or even the 3rd and 4th movies. hell even genysis had a cliffhanger tha was more interesting. This game is targeted towards people who are mainly fans of the franchise, how you brand a branching product matters, its business 101

All i can say is watch the Demo gameplay from steam nextfest, the developer and slitherine live-streams of the game and wait for the release and decide for yourself but they have been upfront and honest on what the game is from the start.

IIRC the price of the Dark Fate license is much cheaper (maybe they pay you?) compared to the OG license.

All i can say is watch the Demo gameplay from steam nextfest, the developer and slitherine live-streams of the game and wait for the release and decide for yourself but they have been upfront and honest on what the game is from the start.

It was their mistake for taking down the demo, as a lot of the bickering could have been avoided if they had the courage to keep it up. Taking down a demo goes to show that they lack confidence in their own product.

agreed, i know its a different genre , but they have big shoes to fill after the overwhelmingly positive response terminator resistance had in user reviews. now that was a game faithful to the real terminator lore.

they really do not lack confidence when it comes to their game, the problem is the demo build has been bypassed by the current build of the game massively at this point and the demo did extremely well and was extended for steam nextfest, right now it's within beta as the game is getting tweaked and polished for release. all i can say is you should judge it based on it's on merits once the game drops but their is alot of gameplay from the demo and streams by slitherine that go into what the game is.

a couple of months after release there will be OG Terminator DLC to try and backpedal and appease anyone who has actual taste, but that will be too little too late, and this game will fade into obscurity.

dude i've been trying to argue that point the whole time, that they need judge the game based on it's own merits through it's game-play and story, that it has nothing to do with the film they hate but sharing the licence but all they want to do is complain about a game that hasn't released yet and hope it fails because they hated a movie that came out years ago

guy is just crying because he doesn't like a movie that came out years ago and probably was never going to look into the game itself like half of the people here in the steam discussions for it which is a shame because it's a really good game that seems to have it's own story and everything that has nothing to do with the film
