I was able to go up this one hill that nearly killed a Kamaz (2022 #500) I was driving once in an older update while in 2nd gear on the DAF. That could be because they properly represented how a twin engine vehicle would perform compared to a single engine vehicle, but I don't know much about how much better two engines would be over one.
It seems like a trend that the classics category (excluding the bikes) have options that are faster than the modern equivalents, but sadly if you run something like the Peugeots in the cars class, the ai won't drive classics of the same class, but the various ai of other classes will be in classics instead (where classics are available).
also if you run a classic bike or the DAF truck, the ai in the car class will drive unreleased classics as well as currently available ones. I've seen them driving the Paris Dakar Porsche 953 (#715, also seen on the classic pack 1 picture in roadmap, but ai have been driving it since day one) and the Lada Niva (looks like #191, also driven by ai since day one)
The issue in which some races are difficult to finish because trucks run out of fuel is being investigated by our team.
You can check the status of that issue and others here: https://support.saber.games/hc/en-us/articles/9815526539793-Dakar-Desert-Rally-Known-Issues
That's an entirely separate issue to the one being described here wherein trucks can't climb hills because their gearing is bugged.
If possible, it would be very helpful if this issue could be reported to our Support team:
