I agree, just wanted to highlight one aspect
FIA created new regulations because of the war and any driver (or team, in which ever sport)
from Russia and Belarus has to have a neutral flag. The teams didn't accept. End of story.
The organisers made a choice, and they chose for those juicy oil dollars over their progressive principles.
Dania Akeel is a Saudi Arabian woman who is driving in the prototype section of this years Dakar. No Burka required. Having come eigth with a male co-pilot last year. (I dont think they are married)
It shows how things have changed in Saudi, it might still be a repressive monarchy, but there does seem to have been improvements in some areas over those 13 years.

OP if you just add that it was 13 years ago, it would avoid a lot of confusion. I originally thought your post was in bad faith, but I dont think it was, just that one detail was missing. It was an interesting article, thanks for posting.
