Pro mode
how many of you play pro or simulation mode? for me, it just too hard to get check point especially at wide desert area, need to guess where is the exact check point, must keep looking at map or compass but not on the track... try few times and back to sport mode only

I'm playing on Pro mode right now until I get to lvl 25 for sim mode.

The trick to reading the road book when you're off-road is once you get to your way point, the middle strip in the road book will tell you which cap setting you should be heading to next. Then when you get to that way point, the strip on the bottom should move up to the middle now, and that will be your new cap heading. The nav will also call out the next cap heading once you reach your hidden way point also if you don't wanna look at your road book.

The important part is, you need to know your cap heading but once you know how to orient yourself to it, it becomes a breeze and quite fun.

Pro mode. Once you get the hang of following the navigators instructions / road book it's a lot of fun. I still go the wrong way regularly and have to restart rather than take a time penalty.

im curious. What exactly is the problem in pro mode? I found it be realy easy once you know how it works. The roadbook is very accurate and easy to read. You only need to do like 20-30% of the roadbook and simply skip the rest. Only 2 things are important. Leaving/Entering an Road/Valley/Street and following CAP when youre offroad...thats pretty much it

I just reached level 27 after 37 hours with the game. I'm been playing at Professional mode quite a lot. I got over the Sport mode early on, it was too much of an arcade feel. I find Professional mode a challenge but like any challenge, you need to spend time at it to get better.

I have tried Simulation mode a couple of times, but I'm waiting for the devs to remove the requirement to place in the top eight to proceed to the next stage. Also I've request an option to remove the speed limits for the car, truck and SxS classes, it is too much of an issue, at least for me, to keep my speed below the limit. I might try using a bike or quad, but since each stage I've tried requires almost an hour of time to play, and there are no in-stage saves, I've decided to wait.

In the meantime Professional mode is very nice. The stages aren't too long and the navigational challenge is a lot of fun. I just wish that the waypoints weren't so close together.

I'm only playing in pro mode since day one (I have not yet unlocked the simulation mode).

All you really need to keep track of in the roadbook for navigating through the stage is the cap, distance and when and where to turn e.g. in a fork or crossing. Does it say "follow traces/tracks" you do that until a cap shows up, because then it usually means you are about to go offroad. When you are offroad, you keep following the caps and distances in every pace note.

If you become lost, backtrack to your latest known pace note and reset the distance meter to that pace note's distance, then follow the cap and take note of the distance in the current pace note you have in your road book to the next one in the road book. E.g. if your current pace note says 36.02 km and the next one says 38.35 km, then you know that it's roughly 2 km in between those 2 pace notes. So if you follow e.g. cap 287 in your current pace note, you will eventually reach the next pace note after you have driven roughly 2 km in cap 287. Then you keep on repeating this through the whole stage until you drive over the finish line.

Everything besides that in the road book, is more or less "good to know information" about the environment e.g. dune, dip, water, train track and so on, but it is not really that essential to the navigation or completion of the stage.

Pro mode is what the game was made for. You gotta learn to use the roadbook, check out my steam guide

thanks guy.... I'll keep trying pro mode hope can get better... at this moment, I feel the way point just too close, I have to non stop look on roadbook and nav, quite painful to drive XD... once lost, even I want to skip that way point but I've no idea where is the next way point... Still learning from master Dakar driver at youtube

If you're glancing and in your peripheral vision, you only see a single line on all 3 strips of the road book, whether dotted or solid, stay on that road. Keep every so often glancing at the bottom strip and only if you see a fork in the road with an arrow pointing you in one direction, look at the KM when it wants you to turn at and look at the cap heading. The navigator will tell you when to turn off-road, so it's your job then to just pay attention to the cap heading.

Learn your cap heading, which way to turn for smaller cap number versus larger cap number, that will help you orient your vehicle of choice once you get to the way point, so you can be prepare for the next one.

It sucks that you have to play sport mode to unlock the classics car, you can't even buy them. My god I hate sport mode.

If you read the roadbook you reach the points without any problem

Honestly, the AI are a joke, the issue is, as long as you follow the roadmap you are good, but the NAV s***s on himself when you are actually a fast driver and he becomes unreliable as f*** so instead you end up just learning the track bit by bit instead of actually listening to the useless nav and even if you wanted to look at the road map, it doesn't even adjust as you are driving until you pass a check point, how the F am I supposed to look at the road and the road map at the same time and adjust it while easily going over 160 kph?!?!?

it's easy lol. Just give it quick glances and check the blue line, cap, and km only. also the button to move forward on the roadbook is right next to the throttle so you'll be fine lol....
