Some are bosses, some show up in random places. Sometimes they will appear in boss arenas, like the forbidden zone? Where toy fought the sledgehammer chick.
You can attack any NPC outside of the hub area. If you're really craving nerve samples early on, try murdering your fellow nymphs.

But don't do it on your 1st play through. Only on 2nd and beyond.
I've not 100%'d the game yet, (i'm at 55 points) but from what i've seen for every region apart from the first one:
Once you kill the boss in the region, next time you load into that region, a nymph will spawn somewhere on it.

The post-boss nymph spawn locations from memory:
Upturned Forest - The far corner of the map, there's a bit you have to drop down to get to, one of the rooms in there (hard to explain)
The Fault - The room full of shipping containers.
Great Forest - At the end of the initial area, after the broken drone with a spotlight pointed at it the open rooftop area where you find the bazooka.
Arboreal Nest - A random room relatively early on in the "main route"
Accumulation Zone - The big empty plateau area, past the earliest laser shotgun worm things you can encounter, i think it's where you find the double barrel shotgun?
Forbidden Domain - In the boss room.

Also there have been a few nymphs in the areas that were locked behind the red forcefield barriers

Any more descriptors? Kinda hard to find some but this did already help a bunch thanks

I'll add some here

The Depths: Theres one towards the start at a left bend at the first fork in the road

Tomb of Divine Wisdom: Left of the black water pool

(PS anyone know where the tank lady goes after the tomb?)

For the Arboreal Nest here's a bit more detailed description: use the teleport circle to the left of the tree that takes you to the enclosed ramps, go to the top, across the roof of the building, and into a room with six pipes along the walls that opens into the second level of the central area with the tree, the nymph is in the pipe room

Also found a few more:

Central Cavern: in the room through the red barrier next to where you first meet Yoyo (the merchant at your base)

Water Treatment Levels: in the middle of the ramp between the resevoir area and the tower the boss is in

The Bridge: go through door 06, up the stairs on the right, up the elevator, and out into the area with the shipping containers

Upturned Forest Nymph Location is in the water tank area which can be accessed by going through the teleporter with a nearby elevator the floor above the nymph should have 2 enemies and 3 floating drones

You can find her near the first tree you find in the caverns

First tree you met in this game, she sits nearby

Just posting here to say real gamers don't cheat because cheating only takes away from your experience.

eh they made some places SUPER annoying to navigate when not fighting try the water treatment levels they somehow made it for scales seemingly fit for armored cores yet your mecha musume can only boost with so much speed and then BAM they give you a land based speedy armor at the END

Funny huh? Same ♥♥♥♥ with Grand blue fantasy relink, you grind the fk out of that game only to get the weapon at the end when you don't need it anymore. I had this same problem with this game, but at the 2nd stage of the upper level node you buy a flying frame when you've basically already completed the level.
