The most you get to do in terms of testing your setup movement-wise and a few nearby enemies, beyond that you just have to commit to what you made and go see how it does in the field .
Constraints and limits are what make things more interesting and different from each other. Ex It's way more interesting to have to choose between 4 parts with their own positives/negatives than choose 1 part thats perfect across the board
if I can just change parts at any time it reduces the impact of the choices and makes building your mech way less meaningful if I can just change everything on the fly to always give myself the perfect advantage for the moment rather than adapt to the new situations and tradeoffs you create with each build.
(What would be an interesting mechanic though is IF you could change parts in realtime, is have some type of wildcard enemy that can ALSO adjust itself based on your build to be a counter to your weaknesses)
That being said, I think a configurable virtual testing ground would be nice just like how that's a staple feature in Armored Core games.
