Stop bloating the game with gimmicks.
Ever since XX there's this trend of a new entry trying to out-anime the prior with new ridiculous gimmicks that do nothing but bloat the game. Styles, mantles, wirebug and now switch skills. The UI is already a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ as it is.

And no, ''just don't use it bro'' is not an argument, as the game was made with these in mind.

Positioning should never been abandoned in favor of this counter meta.

It's a discussion board for a monster hunter game. What else should we talk about, the nice weather?

no load the game with all the gimmicks. make me press every button at once for a unique action. I want the controller's limits tested/ I want confusion drama and chaos. let the gimmicks flow. let the gimmicks reign supreme. all hail the gimmicks.

But in EVERY Monster Hunter title, fights are almost never built around gimmicks in mind. Outside of like, 7 Apex Monsters in 4U, "gimmicks" are never an enforced thing. Things like Styles, Arts, Slingers, CC, Wirebug, you never are forced to use them. You can literally play Sunbreak just like MH1 if you really wanted.

whats to prove? just only use things that were in the original monster hunter and use nothing else. if all of iceborne can be beaten without using a weapon you sure as hell can beat rise using whatever you personally want to use.

You can handicap yourself as much as you want, the only thing you'll accomplish is a subpar experience as the game was built around those systems.

Ok, but why would I not just play mh4u at this point. I'm paying 60 dollars for an improvement on a series I enjoy. For me personally, as a customer, I expect to see a game that both includes previous design choices and improves them, while also adding new ideas and mechanics to add depth to the game. Rise's mechanics and design choices just fundamentally break part of what made monster hunter unique and simplify it to the point where I don't even feel like I need to pay attention to the monster 80 percent of the time. Even if I nerf myself to play like a mh4u lancer, I'm still forced to interact with a myriad of other design issues.

The reason the "gimmicks" of past installments worked to an extent were because:
1. Hunter arts and styles worked on a much more limited and costly resource than wirebugs, meaning missing or haphazardly throwing them out was a serious risk and time loss.

2. Every new installment of the series added genuinely fitting moves to the weapon that expanded on their identity instead of taking away from it. You have a couple of bad eggs in there like gen lance, but for the most part, most of the additions to weapons throughout the series added a level of nuance to their playsytle.

I don't see this in rise. It's very overcentralized and it wants each weapon to do multiple jobs well, which isn't the point when you have 14 weapons to choose from.

thats really not how the concept of personal enjoyment works. you seem like your too invested in the meta way than the most fun way for you.

why are the mechanics you listed gimmicks, how are they bloat, and why are they bad? old school mh was a janky, ugly, clunky mess compared to this game and world lmao

Actively fighting against the game's design choices isn't personal enjoyment, but self-flagellation. You can fight a Teostra in Rise the same way you did in MHFU, but that doesn't necessarily mean you'll be as efficient as someone who makes use of the (bloated) mechanics in Rise to their fullest.

I also think that the cornucopia of mechanics they've added is detrimental to their idea of accessibility, since back then a new player only had to learn positioning and skills, but now there are much more things to keep in mind.

there it is again. efficiency.

your logic makes absolutely no sense. either you have fun being efficient in which case achieving that efficiency should be fun for you, or you would rather have fun playing another way which you refuse to do.

I've been playing monster hunter since ps2. I soloed gold and silver in freedom unite with a sns. I like the things new games add. I still like going back to old monster hunter games, they all play just like they did. I also think rise has some of the most fun combat the series has ever seen. I get it's not how you want it but I don't think its gimmicky or change for changes sake. The team clearly puts a ton of time into these mechanics.

honestly while i don't disagree much, idk what to tell you beside adapt
the gimmick in this game is the bugs, they are literally only linked to the bumpers if controller, and like 2 keybinds on KB,the ui is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥? theres options for that
If you want less gimmicks stuff and isn't happy when told then don't use them cause "muh efficient damage",don't complain in the first place and enjoy old mh then? Like literally, what answer you expect?
