malzeno attack patterns
does anyone have any idea how to beat him, i have painstakingly tried my best on malzeno solo the last 3 or so days, and i can now use the bow parry-dodge on most of his stuff, minus the shockwaves he sends out (which at this point, i dont think i can counter), i have no idea if im being too aggressive, since i have no idea just how aggressive i need to be to beat him in the 15 minutes given, is there anything that would help? i for one cant use melee weapons, since i just dont know how, and i dont know much about the bowguns since world.

i tried and failed, i improved, yes, but i cant overcome it, and if i play it safer, i risk being too slow

Yes, download the mod that gives you 50 min and 9 carts. Kidding aside, I don't play bow but was able to do it with gunlance (without the mod). Gunlance is really strong in the demo and gives you some good defense to his attacks as well.

ok, understandable, i wont stoop to mods that give buffs though
that would diminish the feeling of victory when i finally beat it
ColonelBaker Jun 24, 2022 @ 2:39pm
yeah, the mod that extends the time and carts doesn't give a buff and is a good way to practice the moveset. then you can uninstall the mod when you're ready.

There is unfortunately no answer other than to just go at it until you improve enough to both not die and make it in the time limit. It's legitimately a really difficult fight, harder than almost every fight is going to be in the main game. Cheesing the fight makes no sense either since there is literally zero reason to try to beat this fight other than the feeling of accomplishment, it's just there for people who really want to try something hard for the sake of it being hard. Any kind of cheese, mod or exploit is defeating the entire point of the exercise.

Agree 👏

OP, you need to observe its attack. Due to 15mins and overkill atk, fight it recklessly (especially Gunner it's mainly suicide cause almost all atk 1KO at the beginning, it'll get better in time due to auto-spiritbirds) means 3 carts. Try riding palamute, circle around and observe, then repeat the same while enraged. A LOT of Malzeno moves are predicable, most time it's fixed. One atk > another, same patterns all time.

For example,
1) Three balls that moves very slow and in three direction > tail thrust > claw attack
2) 2 times claw attack or 2x tail thrust
*there's difference between enraged and not

And there's also very obvious move depends on where you stand around it, this one is very difficult to explain. Practice makes perfect. For QoL, there's gameplay video 😂

For gunner, I haven't try bow yet but did it with LBG Ocart (my target is win without cart) But my bro did it and he said it's hardcore haha

i do know one thing, arial aim is detrimental, since a large amount of attacks are quick and deadly enough to kill you if you try it, i have learned to be able to parry 80% of the time, but i almost ran out of time in one of my runs, telling me i was not doing enough deeps despite being very agressive and active with coating swaps and weakspot targeting, will try lbg, since i did main that in world before i went for the bow

Don't worry if you will not be able to do it. It is definitely not a fight your average Monster Hunter player is supposed to be able to overcome. As I said, it's unlikely we will get anything close to being this hard in the expansion itself, maybe in some post release event quests, MR emergency apexes or something like that. I only tried it twice and lost both times, don't want to grind it myself because I want to leave that for the actual game, but I would probably have to spend an entire day trying to beat it with a Hammer, just like I spent an entire afternoon with demo version of Magnamalo. And I have way too many hours in this series to begin with.

Yeah, try LBG. Among the 3 gunners, LBG is the easiest. Use roll instead of sidestep and the new silkbind move. And ammo, pretty much
Normal Lv2,3
Pierce Lv3
Spread Lv2,3
Freeze
can do the trick, not sure which is the best but this will do
Normal mode aim head (somehow chest is also head)
Enraged mode aim arm

i did it, wyvern counter was really usefull, the lbg, whilst it felt like i did less dps, was able to do it very consistantly compared to the bow, so i barely made it, 2/3 carts and 14:25 on timer.
it also helps that the travel time for the bullets are faster (or at least they feel that way) meaning i was hitting the moving spots more often, also, normal 2 felt like it was doing more dps then normal 3 due to its burst and a similar story on freeze vs freeze pierce

also, wyvern counter i frames and the distance you get is insane

A lot of things are most likely not properly balanced in the demo. IF you want a good laugh, go watch 4 person Insect glaive speedrun that kills Malzeno under 1 minute. Yes, under ONE MINUTE. There is no way they will leave those things as they are.

Actually, no there is a way. They might just leave it in for no reason. That would actually be hilarious.
