If the devs don't want to make that, it's their choice but it's also my choice whether to buy it at full price for myself and others or to buy one copy at a steep discount during a steam sale.
coop in story games barely makes sense if not developed with it in mind (e.g. Borderlands). adding coop to a singleplayer game never works well.

Look at Halo co-op. You are just a copy of Master Chief and it works great
there are other games you can play in co-op, if that is what you want. so yeah, again... you might want to move on in that case.
what works in one game doesn't matter for another, and copies of a soldier with a closed helmet (who is part of an army) is a different thing than a specific character who acts alone...
