Shield is better if you want more survivability. You'll have access to most of Knight, Priest, and Shield skills.
Magic Device is good to boost your damage. You need a [Book of Magic Warrior] skill book to learn the skills, which costs way more spina compared to the library.
If you want to solo... you probably want to take shield as it gives survivability and utility to break monster parts.
Solo to farm small mobs is okay but not for solo bosses. And those two have different build and equipment. Which one do u want to make?
Why it is not recommended to solo bosses? higher difficulty boss usually kill your mercenary sooner or later. And they moving a lot, quick action time, wide aoe and hit like a truck. You will have a big problem if you are a finale user. You can, but it will be very a hard fight and looong battle.
Most people use mage ninja to farm small mobs, you use ninja scroll as subs, which is expensive. Or the cheaper version,, use Md sub or Main MD to learn Blizzard + Storm combo.
There are a lot of build for DPS mages and Support mages, take your time.
MD has three uses for Staff:
1. Resonance from the Magic Blade skill tree. Your MD's refinement level affects the strength of the buff it gives.
2. Nemesis from the Priest skill tree. Dual Element with your MD's element (Light + your MD's element.)
3. Fashion.
Have you tested this on non dark element monster? Do I read it wrong or the skill description misleading us (again)?
