Laysara: Summit Kingdom

Horrible german (pc) traslation (made up words/ words with diffrent meaning)
I played the demo and loved the game (english version) The german traslation however is horrid. Because the german language is not "inclusive" enough, they just used made up words.

Especially weird to translate monks (only men) to "Ordensleute" wich is sth. completly different. Why is not tjhe term "Mönch" used ?

The main problem is that words like "Ordensleute" (Monks) or "Tieflandbewohn(ende)er" (Lowlanders) dont really exist in the german language, or even have different meanings.

Im extremly glad the english vesion is not trying the same thing, as it would ruin the atmosphere.

I dont understand why the translator felt the need to rewrite the german language in such a nice game - terrrible chocie

♥♥♥♥, here we go again,
wanted to get this in this sale, i think i will skip now ...

edit: ok, after some reading i looks like the developers didn't mess up the transation intentionally. I can imagine that it is quite difficult these days to find a useful translator who is not politically influenced. Just look at anime & japanese games and the messed up translations they get ...

Oh boi :')

Our intention was just to have a good-quality German translation, but somehow we managed to get ourselves right in the middle of a passionate linguistic/ideological debate, didn't we? ^^

Let me start by saying that this is a tricky topic for us because none of us has a decent knowledge of the German language and I'm sure we are missing a ton of nuance, sensitivity and context regarding this issue.

When designing our UI, we assumed there would be one word for each caste member, like "Artisans" or "Monks", being adequate for both genders. When doing translations we're told that in German this isn't that simple. We didn't want to redesign our UI because of one particular language - and decided, just for the simplicity and consistency across all languages, to stick to the assumption of having an encompassing term for each caste. Maybe we should have spent more time on this matter, but on the other hand, we are a small team of three people. We had no intention of offending anyone, at that time we simply had been focused on fixing crashes and finishing the last bits of content in an organized panic just before the launch.

As I said before, we don't really understand this topic very well. Some German players seem to be really passionate about this, but we've also got tons of positive German comments/reviews not even mentioning the matter - that's confusing for us, not gonna lie.

Could you pinpoint which phrases you find problematic and what alternatives suitable for both genders there are? Seems like the word for the Lowlanders caste is the weirdest of them all? About Monks: Laysara draws inspiration from different real-world cultures, but ultimately it is a fantasy world. Religion in Laysara isn't actual Buddhism and we’ve got female Monks in the game.

Let us know what you think about this topic, but please, let's be respectful of each other :)

it's more or less like the Latinx Issue. Try calling a latin american Latinx and he will tell you how much he likes this new inclusive language :)
as a compromise you could offer two german translations, classical (and grammatically correct) german and "woke whatever german" ^^
It is not as bad as it is in some other games, so if you like the gameplay, the translation won't destroy the game for you
i had to turn remnant 2 to english, the woke german translation was insufferable
thank god the english language is harder to mess up ^^

btw, nice profile pic xD

I just checked. Still Tieflandbewohnende, Ordensleute and so on.
would be nice if a dev can give some info regarding this issue and if they intend to fix it.
I would get the game in the current sale, if some effort is made to improve the german translation :)
any new update on this topic?
Nope

Wow!

To the Devs:
Your translation doesn't ruin anything. Only ppl who are easily triggered by endings like "-ende" which is a newly created form of gender neutral language will say different. In my oppinion a change is not necessary.

If you used "Monks" in the English version it is fine. However, opposite to other languages, "Mönch" in German is really just a male member of a religion. Therefore, "Ordensleute" is fine if the religion ingame allows more than just male members. If you want to change it you could go for "Geistliche" as suggested in this thread here.

For the rest I'd leave it be, as all the arguments here were just pure nonsense. As I said, no one cares, who doesn't want to. Zrobić komara ze słonia.

Multiple people: "The translation kinda destroys the game".
You: "The translation doesn't disrupt us at all".
Yes, it does. This thread proves it.

that's your opinion, not mine, keep it to yourself

the first schools already started to ban gendering, should give you something to think about

gendering it's a perversion of the language, enforced by a small, loud and totalitarian minority in the name of neverending progressivism

Exactly. He tries to downplay our opinions by insulting us as easily triggered and calls our arguments nonsense, although he didn't even disprove them in any way. He added a huge amount of nothing to this thread.
