Side note:
If you have enough Monks to staff the Academy, but it still isn't working, you may need to manually turn the Academy on. When you click on the Academy, there is an icon in the bottom-right window that allows you to Activate the structure. Click that.
This normally happens when you build the Academy before you have enough Monks to staff it. Because it takes so many Monks, I believe this is a safety wall by the Devs to prevent insta-bankruptcy. If the Academy is Activated prior to you having enough Monks, the cost of outsourcing the staff will crush your bank account.
You don't need to send copper Utensils to Monks - just placing a Monks Dormitory and having it by a road grants you 4 Monks. You need 38 Monks to operate the Academy, so 10 Monks Dormitories :)
We'll revisit the tutorial when working on the campaign for the 1.0 version of the game, so we'll improve the readability and clarity of this section. We released Laysara in EA precisely for that reason, so we can improve the game before the full launch :)
