Please, no.
why not?
But, what if, instead of the way the refinement system currently works, each refinement was like a recipe book that taught Marcus (or whoever the blacksmith is) how to apply that refinement infinitely. So like, say I bought the predator refinement, instead of only being able to put it on one weapon, the blacksmith knows how to put it on any weapon. Refinements would then only have to be purchased once.
I think the endurance and weight system (which I love btw) is a built in balance against loading up every single weapon with the best refinements. Now, I'm only about halfway through the game, so I don't know if late game endurance values are so high they are no longer really limiting. Also can't comment on how busted all of the chest/drop refinements get. I feel like these could be balanced with increased weight or classify them as like a jewel that gets attached to the weapon so can only be equipped to one single weapon. The other balance I was thinking is maybe the shop refinements would need to cost more, maybe like double? So you're essentially buying two of them for the ability to use them infinitely.
Anyway, just a fun thought I had and wanted to share.
It's an interesting idea, but would require a pretty large rebalancing of the economy. I kind of tried to do something like what you're talking about with making the refinements transferable between weapons at no cost, so it's kind of like your idea that the smith "knows how to do it".
The problem would come in when you can buy one refinement (like sharpened for example) and then that means you can put it on every weapon. To balance getting +X damage on every single weapon, I'd have to increase the denari cost, and at that point it'd probably limit experimentation a little too much. I think having the refinements be able to be pulled out and switched around freely gets about half way to the idea you're thinking about (plus I'm not sure everyone knows about that feature). But let me know what you think! It's an interesting idea for sure.
Nah I get you. Certainly after the game is already released it would be weird to change a core aspect of the game so fundamentally. It was just a fun idea I had that I was going to keep to myself but this thread sort of seemed like a perfect opportunity to share it. Like I said in my original post, probably could only work as like a mod of the game.
Cow a bunga Dude!'s mighty sword !

Jokes aside i have a few idea, that i ll submit but i don t see how you re going to credit someone in the game's item description.
And generally, it's a nice thank you to the community. I appreciate that
I'll allow myself one cheesy line: I wouldn't be here without you all, so I want to make sure I'm doing right by the community who supported me in this journey.
I submitted an idea for a new shield type that I hope you'll consider.
