Thinking of grabbing this as I love FE and SRPG's -- does this game have character classes/upgrade class paths such as FE does?

Yes! It's kind of a Sacred Stones situation: Each base class has 3 advanced classes (some base classes share advanced class promotions) and a further 3 "exalted classes"
