Have you considered letting people turn "permadeath" mode off?
Not pre-campaign, im meaning lets say someone is halfway through a campaign and decides that after playing for a bit they dont want the added stress of permadeath. Maybe they have had one too many party wipes, or maybe they are interested in the story but struggling with the

As far as i can tell, currently theres no way to turn permadeath mode off after youve started a game. Obviously any achievements requiring it would be disabled once someone decided to turn it off. I was also thinking that if a main character died, instead of the person "losing" you could put the option of turning permadeath off on the "lose" screen?

Not a requirement by any means, just thought it might be a little QOL change that ive seen other games with "iron man" or "permadeath" options.

Hey Isisius! Good question. It's currently technically possible by manually editing the save if you go to "permadeath" and change it from a "0" to a "1", and restart the game. There is no way to change it from in game, and I don't know if I'll be able to add in an official way. It's a good suggestion though as I know some people may change their minds after playing the game a bit on both sides.

I think that changing from "non-permadeath" to "permadeath" maybe defeats the purpose of permadeath, which is to make it such that any mistake is heavily punished. So players who select it are willing to take on that challenge. Im not sure being able to toggle it on fits with the theme of permadeath.
I guess it would still leave it up to each player, but I havent seen many games where you could turn it off and on at will during a campaign.

Rather just the ability to turn it off so someone who doesnt have the hours in the days (kids, job, etc) to restart an entire campaign just to turn it off if they hit a bit they cant get past. At that point, youll probably find some people looking for that option so they can at least finish their run. Without that, you might find some people get halfway through the game and abandon it if they cant switch it off because they dont have the time to do a second run from the start.

As for adding in the official way, im sure theres more to it, but if you know where in the save file you need to change the 0 to a 1, shouldnt it be somewhat simple to do that automatically. Been a long time since ive coded, so i figure there must be some complexity involved that would take too long to bother discussing on a forum lol.

Anyway, thanks, and maybe if people search for this they can at least see your answer so they can do it manually if needed.

Thank you, and yeah completely agree there are a lot of good reasons people may want to switch mid run.

You're right, it's not too technically difficult! It just requires a new/repurposed UI and figuring out where to put it, and I need to slightly prioritize other things on the roadmap since there is a somewhat reasonable work-around to it currently. That's my thought process at least.
Hey man, another developer here. Just wanted to step in and say that you handled this perfectly!
A lot of developers just don't want to give any advice on switching a setting, even if it's something more simple to do inside a .ini/setting file. I understand that everyone has their own opinion in permadeath and being able to change things mid game, but I also understand that sometimes people do permadeath and end up finding out the game is just harder than they expect, or that they maybe made some bad choices with equipment or inside a battle.
I have had a few permadeath games where I really didn't want to lose a specific person, but given where I saved in the battle, it was 100% not possible for that character to not die. This would have been nice in those instances.
Anyways, so far I have been liking the game!
Oh! I would also like to point out something, and I may be wrong in this, but the game stated the greatsword "Hits the next unit clockwise" but I think you may mean counter clockwise? Or I am just understanding it wrong on my own level.
So clockwise is left moving, so if you attack someone on the right then the left unit would also get hit. When I was playing the game with the greatsword for the first time, it only attacked both units if I attacked the left out of the two. So to me that would mean counter clockwise... or I would need to target the right unit so the left unit gets hit.. unless I am misunderstanding something, which is totally possible!

Just checked in game, seems to work how I understand it from the "next unit clockwise" description:
https://imgur.com/gallery/greatsword-slash-ability-counter-clockwise-Eb6AFkQ

Though I'll add: I would consider "clockwise" to mean something like a right-handed spiral (how I think of a clock), which moves from left to right at the top, and left to right at the bottom. So the next unit clockwise, is the next unit to the right, if you're facing them. If the character is "behind" the enemies (more toward the top of the screen), then the spinning of that clock is the same, but the next unit clockwise will be to the left, since the perspective is flipped.

Does that make sense and/or accurately describe what you're seeing in-game?

Really appreciate the kudos, thank you! I'll always just try to be as transparent as possible with things like this. I don't have any issues with people editing their play-throughs as they wish, and hopefully I can make it easy for them, which is the main reason why I left the save file unencrypted.

As for the clock-wise description I believe it is correct, as shown by Sigismund's Wrath's image. Though it may be a little confusing at first. It was the best way I could think to describe it that was agnostic of the position the character is in. Something like "To the right of" could get a bit confusing when attacking from different angles, even though I believe it would still be technically correct. Bit of a challenging description to write!
