Fortunately, this run I've only re-started the battle twice, when I didn't realize you only had to save 5 of the 6 villagers and tried to save all 6 back in chapter 6.
I have a couple things in the works to address this like the Restart Chapter button you mentioned, as well as changing defeat conditions for casual/normal when playing with perma-death disabled so your main characters dying don't cause a game over.
One thing I'll not is you can currently hit ENTER/Return to on the keyboard to skip all scenes which may help speed things up while I work to get those out. Hope this at least helps a bit to currently speed things up!
I'm working on changing the loss conditions if you're playing on casual/normal with perma-death off to be your entire team dying rather than just the main three to avoid the scenarios where they're dying at the end.
I'm going to be changing the defeat conditions on casual/normal modes with perma-death disabled to require all three main characters to die in a chapter for it to be a defeat for that chapter. That way losing one unit at the end won't require a full restart if playing with perma-death disabled.
Also just a head's up that you can currently hit ENTER/Return to skip all dialogue/scenes so the restart should go much faster, usually less than 10 seconds.
When this is going to happen?
But do again want to state how much Im enjoying the game overall. Love little gems like this.
He killed 13 enemies, but was slowly whittled down by the overwhelming enemy numbers. If he had just left them alive it would have worked fine. Losing over something I have no control over is just frustrating.
Third time Ive had to restart this level due to a main character dying. Last time it was Illyana getting one shotted by an enemy that avoided ZOC on turn 12.
Fun game, just will wait until manual saves or defeat conditions change.

Well, looks like Im back at it here soon!
