What are these items for?
I finished the game twice, bad and good ending (Matt Dies/Escapes). Never figured out where to use the Salt, Plaque or Bolt Cutters (if you don't find the key?).
Anyone know?

I don't think I've seen the salt. The bolt cutters are for just what you said (no key). You need the plaque for a specific room. Open the map and it'll hint at the room. The door itself will have an ID badge sticker on it. You have to have it in your inventory for you to enter that room. If you do not, it'll just keep looping you back outside.

The salt can be used on that bug on the plate if you decide not to use the teapot with hot water.

Do you all know how to open the briefcase? I can't figure it out or find the key. I also found a key for a drawer but can't find the drawer that it opens.

I played this on Xbox and opened pretty much everything except for that briefcase. At the end I was only missing 3 notes I think. Really curious what is in that briefcase. :) Also, what the heck was that all about the "metal turtles". There's 3 of them throughout the rooms and I thought that was a hint to open the turtle book. Opening the book was pointless though. Maybe I should have shot them with my gun?

The salt and teapot with hot water both fulfill the same purpose, the bolt cutters and padlock key both serve the same purpose, and there are TWO keys to room 203 that both serve the same purpose. And you can also get to 203 via the vent/dumbwaiter or whatever in 202.

About the metal turtles, I think this team just likes reusing assets. That's not the only asset that appears in a bunch of different rooms. You can try to shoot them but I doubt anything is in them. I got the achievement for looking in every single room in the game. And the only thing I couldn't open was the briefcase. I still don't know what the key goes to that says it's for opening drawers. I don't even understand what it could possibly open because there's nothing else in the game TO open with it. Maybe you need to die and allow things to change? I haven't actually died yet so I don't know if that's necessary in order to use some of these items.

Yeah, the mechanics running behind it aren't accurate. When I finished my second playthrough I had 4 or 5 extra bathroom keys and several small picklocks. Nearly everything had been opened by the end so I don't think the count is accurate as it's just "extra" to accommodate the changes. First time I played I had to find a key to unlock the drawer for my clothes but you could strong arm it but lose health. The next time there was a combination box that had a key in it as well as a combination that was etched inside the first drawer to open it with. I think the key inside the toilet never changed though and that would get you outside the bathroom. If you explore a lot there are plenty of locked bathrooms and you'll need those extra keys to find the extra goodies if you want to explore them.

The wooden briefcase? You open it with the crowbar (don't ask me where I found it;)

Interesting that there are multiple solutions for some puzzles!
Did anyone ever figure out what to do with the brick?

The brick can be used to smash open that glass case in the room with the gambling stuff

Just a heads up that using the brick in this way will cause a monster to spawn behind you. But you can easily run around it or put it down.

Do you mean the pole with hook that you use in the pool or a real crowbar?
What was in the briefcase?

Yeah I was trying to remember if I found a crowbar - I can't remember I'd have to play it again. But I'm pretty sure I tried the pole on the briefcase and that didn't work so I don't think that's what they meant.

Hmm....So what did you find in the briefcase?

No its an actual crowbar. There's a hint on which book you have to put the star-shaped object in. Or a key.. not sure anymore. It changes sometimes after you die.

The star shaped object goes on the Wolf book. I'm wondering if some items are only available after you die. Because I haven't died yet so I haven't seen anything get rearranged or whatever happens after that.

Ah, I guessed it the first time and got lucky. The other 2 are just poison when I tried it out a second time. I kept seeing turtle statues throughout the game and thought that was a signal to open the turtle book but it and the snake book just hold poison.
