Goodbye, MultiVersus

MultiVersus has MANY problems, be its monetization, character unlock grind, the tedium of Rifts, but one thing I always enjoyed in the end was how it played, and ultimately that's the most important thing about a video game. I've certainly enjoyed the 350ish hours I've put into the game.

With the addition of shields, I do not enjoy the game anymore.


I said during the survey sent out that I'd quit the game if Shields were added to the main game, and sure enough Player First added shields. I'm out.

It's very strange knowing I got a $100 Founders Pack for a game that got consistently worse with every update to the point it doesn't resemble the game I fell in love with.

A large appeal of MVS during the "beta" was the breakneck chaotic pace of 2v2s that didn't require a ridiculous amount of actions-per-minute that pioneering platform fighters required. When the game went dark for a year and came back, that breakneck speed was gone. 2v2s were still somewhat fun, getting a good 2v2 play was downright visceral compared to other contemporary platform fighters I come across which ape WAY too much off of Melee and Project M.

That was what appealed Multiversus to me; it was trying to be its own thing unlike every other contemporary platform fighter who just try (and fail) to be Melee again.

One of the more consistent complaints of modern MVS is that the gameplay is too slow and floaty, so Player First Games in their infinite wisdom adds shields, which will slow the games pace down further. I played the shield Testing Grounds, it slows the game down even further, which is kind of confusing because they've made changes that speed the game up over the past few months only to add something that'll slow the neutral down..

Shields are not going to speed the game up.

Whatever depth PFG think Shields is going to add isn't going to help the health of the game.

Shields are not going to bring in new players and save the dwindling playerbase.

I hope that PFG walks back the shield implementation. Until then;

People play a FREE game and cry about monetization. Even though 99% of everything can be unlocked just by playing and without donating. I just agree that the shields are crap.

Same... Tho sometimes the difficulty on some nodes is WAY overtuned. Like the forced play as Taz to fight WW in the recent one, On insanity it feels like her AI and damage/defense levels are on Looney.
