Offline play claim, in limited form, is indeed valid. (UPDATED)
//{Original thread title: Offline play claim is an absolute lie.}

Genuine offline, not their version. It matters not that after you first use online authentication via 3rd party servers (theirs), you can then --already, technically and legally "online served"-- play some crippled "offline" mode, that, again, is only available and possible after still requiring online "use". :octavia:

You need to "authenticate" even before reaching the main menu. The game will still use and rely on their servers - until even those (that part) will be switched off. :lunar2019madpig:

They could still patch it "properly", and very easily, to allow us to get to the damn main menu and play "solo", via a (somewhat understandably) crippled offline mode version, forever. That way, technically speaking, you could turn off your internet and the game would still, partially, work. Try that now. :octavia:

..and yeah, some/many of you will be happy with that b/s, and perpetuate their lie that "offline mode available after the 30th" as if a proper one exists. Even the screen displayed at the start of the game stating so includes; "for the foreseeable future" -- meaning until "we" (they) turn off the servers that authenticate "main menu login". At that time, just another completely dead game. ..and again, they could easily remove that part, but they won't.

..

After further testing by BioMETRIK Labs LLC, I am now able to confirm that indeed this game will remain, partially, playable after they shut down the "server" based content/access.

However, based on the statement by WB that you have to also "log in before the 30th" to be able to continue playing via this offline mode, it remains a potential issue for many, who have the game, including paid DLC purchased via the Steam store (not in-game) who are not aware of this requirement, and will not be able to do so after tomorrow.

There is technically at least one "workaround", that being to obtain someone's already "approved" (logged-in, etc) save files. That's why you have to log in first, so the server can "verify/get/dump/save/etc" account data to your local save - or maybe Steam cloud if you use that and the game fully supports it. ..and yes, you would see/get their in-game items/stuff (whatever they have, so if a "whale" shares theirs, you could have "everything") which could be a good thing for many.

In fact, what WB should do, for two reasons, is to create a publicly offered "generic save set" that has everything the game ever offered. That way everyone could mess about with all skins etc, and those who don't log in before the "kill" date, can still play the game they should (like the rest of us) be able to. Again, at least those who paid for a proper Steam store DLC.

I also became aware that there were three Twitch drops from way back, which should also be added to everyone's account. They were for watching "approved" streamers for 30/60/90 minutes. They should have approved some fools just now in this last week or so, and re-advertised this event, and we could have so easily have gotten those skins.

..

Rest assured, after the dust settles, I will offer rewards to "people" to "teach" me a way to "add/open" skins/etc for the crippled version we will be left with. It may not be possible, but it should, I would think. If nothing else, surely in time, a whale's saves set should "appear", and that will do just that.

I'm not quite sure what you're saying. If you don't have internet when you launch the game, it launches in offline mode. If you have internet it will try to authenticate, but come May 30 it will no longer try to authenticate.

Really? This has been "legally" confirmed officially? :steamsad:

..if so, I shall return after the 30th (or a sign that something has changed) and post that I am/was wrong. In fact I hope it happens, as that will, obviously make me very happy.

..btw, if so, does that mean (has it been officially confirmed - if so can you link?) any characters/skins we purchased that relied (past tense, written now but forward looking) on servers and real money transactions, for those who have them now, we see/keep them in offline mode? ..because if so, I may (if even possible) purchase some more. :steamhappy:

It's on their official website. You are certainly right to be suspicious about the wording (especially when it comes to WB), but I would be pretty surprised if they patched the game to not work in offline mode. That would require extra work, considering it's already possible to play offline now.

You can boot up the game in offline mode right now to see what it includes rather than waiting until they turn off the servers, if you temporarily disable your computer's internet connection.

From what little poking around I've done, I believe it lets you play Rifts, Training, and Local (and although Custom Game is not selectable they added most if not all of the unique stuff from that mode to Local so it's basically still playable). You can also still access the Fighter and Career tabs, so you can still see all the skins/fighter cosmetics you've unlocked (anything you didn't unlock is no longer visible, unlike in online) - every Fighter is unlocked automatically and I know you can select any perk freely in Local but I dunno if that carries over to the Fighter menu. Career basically just lets you see your highest ranked season in ranked play before the servers died.
