How do you know it takes place after the original? What if it takes place during the 2016 reboot?
I can still 1v3 3 level 9 Melee bots with Samus without items, used to main-main like 12 different characters, and love to pick Random because I ain't ♥♥♥♥♥ made and had thousands of hours in Melee and hundreds of hours in every other Smash title; including 4 on the Wii U and 3DS. Ultimate is probably my fewest hours and that's only because I also have Splatoon 3 and that has better Online, but I digress. (also all the couch co-op gang moved away and have different schedules or grew apart, c'est la vie)
Like I would have to reference a character to list to actually list all of the characters I "main"ed after Melee when I stopped just picking Random. (as in could fight competently with but not main-mained like I do Samus, Zelda, Shiek, Game-n-Watch, Marth, Link etc.) I'm competent with something like 2/3rds of Ultimate's Roster.
You can make assumptions all you want, but I've earned my arthritis and can play with or without items. Items and stage hazards simply make the fight more interesting and not the same boring bulldoze if I'm playing one of my best.
Literally scooby doo map, hall of corridors with villains / show members running between them like in the cartoon openings, which would hit and do damage
