I like the dash attack, but auto dash attack seems weird for a fighting game.
It's like a reverse double tap mechanic where you do it to not dash... weird
Make the last bit of your dash a dodge and you can side attack no problem.
This also gives you an extremely safe distance close to make sure the attack connects.
I think you missed the point. I'm not saying that you can't work around it, I specifically addressed a way to do side attacks anyway, this isn't the point.
The point is that it's dumb and inconvenient, if you can map out side attack left, right, up down, neutro, special left, up, right, down, neutro, etc etc, if you can map almost everything, why can't you map this?
there's literally no excuse.
It's not that, it really triggers when you walk for like a second so your next normal attack is gonna be a dash attack, if you interrupt the walk animation and attack it will be a normal side attack
