Why does NO ONE play Steven?

He's been the character I've seen the least by far, and I play mostly Teams. I even see Taz and Arya more often. Steven has been almost completely absent, he's like finding a Lance user in Monster Hunter.

He's not a bad character and you only need a few matches to get up to speed with him. He's also the main character of his franchise which is, as far as I know, not unpopular. But you'd think Garnet was actually the main character, since I see her way more often. I know it's not related to his tier list position, since I see Lebron all the time. Is it because he has that little "Expert" tag next to his name? I would think so, if only I didn't see someone lazily trying out Iron Giant every few games.

So what's up? What's your excuse for playing everyone except Steven Universe?

i main steven. im top 10.000 with him in 1 vs 1. hes just super hard to master but if you can you will find yourself winning 1vs1 no sweat.

I was speaking for myself when i said the reasons why I don't play Steven. I even mentioned that I played Garnet myself even tho I don't like her design. I just dont like playing steven cuz he doesn't fit my style of fighting in this game. That's it. I've gone against ppl who play steven really well and he can be a very annoying character to fight against if used by the right ppl.

U grabbed 3 randos in a steam forum. That's hardly a good sample size to reflect the population. Not to mention, u used someone who used the R word in 2022 and essentially just said he was a goofy looking child (didnt say anything about short and fat and again this just reflects on you assuming that a goofy looking kid means they r short and fat), someone who mentioned that he looked like a hippie (nothing to do with fat and short since Shaggy is in fact a stoner hippie and he is tall and lanky), and only one person who said he is fat lol. I still think it's all just reflecting more on your character than anything else.

There's nothing "wrong" with his art style. I just don't like it. I prefer how Bugattis look over Lambos. Does that mean there's something wrong with a lambo's design? No. I just prefer one over the other.

Yeah like he doesnt fit my style of fighting in this game, BUT... i did fight a couple stevens who were amazing. It's super annoying going against a pro Steven player. Hell, even a Steven bot was a little annoying at times. No hate against the character, I just like others more than him. And thats okay lol.

Cause i hate him, nothing gameplay wise, i just don't like steven universe, but his kit is interesting so i was planning on picking him up eventually.

Who knows i might fall in love with his kit and 1 trick him, but not him.

You said twice that me thinking it was because he was short and fat was some kind of reflection on me, so I presented evidence to the contrary. Sure, "hippie" could mean "sandals", and "retarded" could mean "his face", but it's all still a knock on his appearance and not necessarily his art style. Shaggy being tall and lanky only backs up what I said about Steven being fat and short, since they're both hippies, but everyone plays Shaggy.

My belief that no one plays him is based on the fact nobody plays him. No it's not literal, I play him, but if we took a poll or got the dev's numbers, I'm confident that Steven would be near or at the bottom of the list. Like I said in the OP, Taz is likely seen more often than Steven, too. Seriously, how many of either character are you actually seeing in-game compared to anyone else? It's more anecdotes, but enough anecdotes do add up to something.

Shaggy being iconic is questionable, imo. Scooby Doo, the actual dog, would take that place on my list, Shaggy's just an easy and recommended character.

Taz is cheaper and easier to learn than Steven... And is Taz. Taz' been around for a loooooong time.

Shaggy's iconic, scooby's more iconic, but this game, by dev admission, literally wouldn't exist without the ultra instinct Shaggy memes, which also aids iconism.
