How does matchmaking work in this game?

Is it based off of gear score or it's rarity or something else entirely?

It doesn't it will match you with people you are unable to damage but they can one shot you, and it will lock you into said server no matter how many times you die or switch maps.

The sharpening/charge/upgrade level is also very influential. From 0 to 5 usually no major changes. From 6-8 there is a transition to more serious opponents.

Yeah nah.. that's just bs.. i have a 1.0 kd, with mostly veteran stuff on +5 and see people with master armor and gear on +15 constantly... and their KD is well above 3 so.. nah.. matchmaking is broken af.

the more high tier equipment the more difficult the opponents, try to not speedrun everything and take your time leveling all the necessary stuff before going to the next rank

I have unfortunately acquired higher-tiered gear because of the crates that cost credits, I like the gear but I am worried if it is too high or not. The Albatross Scout and a couple other pink pieces of gear

KD is irrelevant. It is based on a hidden gear score, based on your highest-scored equipment.
