Why the Mosin is your best friend early-mid game
Hello fellow Bandits and Stalkers, I'm gonna share a little insight that I've picked up on ever since my first in game death.

For those of you who enjoy PvP or are struggling killing human NPCs for your Swampstone, Seeds etc. The Mosin is absolutely one of the best choices for you.

Pros:
  • 1 shot headshot on Players/NPCs almost 100% of the time (the 2x headshot multiplier is insane)
  • You're able to pick off NPC humans outside of their effective firing range, reducing an entire Stalker/bandit camp to nothing with little to no effort
  • In PVP you're able to spot people (Especially with the scope) way before their in-game player proximity beeper goes off, giving you an incredible upperhand to get the drop on them.
  • High chance of inflicting bleed damage means additional pressure, forcing a lot of less combat-efficient players to immediately hide and bandage up, giving you enough time to quickly finish them off with your pistol (Bodyshots do anywhere between 1/2 to 3/4 damage from my experience with basic armour plates)
  • 7.62 ammo is extremely common, as a matter of fact there's a pretty decent chance that I get the same amount of ammo back I used when I shoot down and then loot a stalker camp.

Cons:
  • Bolt action, you need to be patient when firing and ensure you hit your shot otherwise you might be panicking when a hail of bullets suddenly starts rushing your way.
  • There's currently an audio bug which plays the "metal clink sound" very loudly, which can alert players that you ARE in the area, though it doesn't seem the "metal clink sound" actually has directional audio like the shot itself.

Honestly guys, my first death was getting the ♥♥♥♥ sucked out of my ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ when I randomly got dropped by one of these, so I decided to try it out and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ I feel unstoppable right now.
I'm able to farm swampstone/seeds etc. with relative ease which is ensuring my upgrade paths are going smoothly and I'm scouting out a lot more often due to the scope and occasionally spotting things I normally wouldn't. (Spotted 2 artifacts side-by-side today only because the glow was a little odd conflicting with the fog)

I'd say pack a 9mm pistol with expansive ammo if possible too, the expansive ammo melts mutant mobs quickly and if your mosin shot on a player destroys their armour upon hit then you've got a really dangerous secondary with ammo to shred armourless foes. (Not tested an Armour piercing 7.62 with expansive 9mm run yet, but I'll totally be testing it out once it's getting harder to one-shot people)

I really hope this convinces you to give the mosin a shot, or if not please tell me what weapons you guys are using and having a load of fun with.

SVT is just better. Two headshots kill anyone & it's far more forgiving if you miss

Gotta be honest, not tried the SVT yet but the 2 headshots is a dealbreaker for me. Maybe a better match for people who're not so confident in their aim but I tend to have a pretty accurate shot. I'll gladly do some testing though!

Mosin is a good rifle - until you can get the full fledged SVT.

A nice combo I've found is a Mosin with the AKM

It stops you from needing to hold onto multiple ammo types if you're looking for a midrange option, and it's later upgrade paths of either the RPD, or the G3. Both of which have their own pros. Either for it's sheer clip size or versatility. Basically a pick your poison sort of deal.
