Whats going on with this games economy??
I've played for a bit and its dawning on me that not only do weapons and equipment not drop when killed, which is massively disappointing on its own, you cant sell anything except the animal and crafting stuff?

I initially thought the the starting gear was bound just so you had a pea shooter to use when desperate, but none of your gear drops?? theres no risk of dying at that point as far as i can tell and since you cant sell half the things you find the stuff just piles up in your inventory after youve used it to craft the things you cant ever lose?

Doesnt there need to be a resource sink for everything or am i missing something?

The gear not dropping is very important to the game's progression. You will be investing almost all of your playtime, and it's quite a lot of playtime, into progressing along the gear upgrade tree. If over a hundred hours of progress could be wiped out by being killed by a single player, or be skipped by killing a single player, that would be ridiculous. This isn't like Tarkov or similar games where your gear can be repurchased with rubles, or where you can find great gear in the open world. Everything you do is in pursuit of upgrading your gear, and that progression persists. Think of it as a game with longer, steadier progression. After a very, very long amount of playtime, you might encounter a point where you no longer see a use for loot to progress. At that point, you'll be either waiting for game updates, or some players focus on PvP for fun. Not a lot of players are at that point because it takes quite a lot of time to actually get there. Also, the rarity system on artifacts means you'll be unlikely to truly have "maxed" gear, so artifact hunting can become what you do if you seek further gains.

The most important loot in the game are the barter materials. In the first area, that's swamp moss and stones. Once you have obtained enough materials to purchase all the gear you want, you are encouraged to continue to the more northern, challenging areas. These will start giving new barter materials, while presenting more dangers and stronger players. The thing you are missing is that once you no longer need to buy gear with swamp barter materials, you should leave the swamp as soon as you can. The first couple of areas go fairly quickly, but I guarantee you that even after hundreds of hours of play, you are still going to be wanting more barter supplies. There's plenty of gear to spend them on, and the amount the gear costs scales quickly.

In the PvP, you are risking your supplies (usually a small amount of rubles to rebuy) and the barter materials and artifacts of your expedition, and your reward is the opponents supplies and loot, which itself you will generally sell for rubles. You cannot use their barter supplies though, so I recommend selling them, auctioning them back to the player, or mailing them to the player. Many people play quite defensively as they value their bater materials over the rubles they would get from PKing, but that's up to you, PKing is fun in any case.

Finally, let me explain how the game's economy works regarding loot from the world:
* Barter materials sink into gear. I do not advise selling barter mats, as you might want to try a different gear tree and will need to buy the early items in the tree. Do not linger in the swamp once you no longer have anything to do there, continue north alongside the quests.
* Animal parts sell for rubles. Rubles are the second very important resource in the game, as they will fuel your resupplies and are needed for buying gear. Later gear is quite expensive! Once you get into the late game, the real value of rubles is in buying items from the player auction house, which you probably have not encountered yet. There you can get rare items, or even buy premium status.
* Artifacts are either used as gear, sold for rubles, or you can turn them into energy, which is used to upgrade and charge your good artifacts.
* Supplies like ammo and meds will help you to save money on resupplies. As loot, these are generally rather undesirable and flood your storage, so eventually you'll probably stop looting them. Technically you can sell these on the auction house for a pittance.
* Upgrade materials like tools are sunk into making your gear stronger
* Finally, gear itself can be used as a resource by breaking it down into components. Failed gear upgrades deteriorate the gear, and you'll need components to repair the max durability. So if you really have an excess of barter mats, you could buy and then break down gear for components. I've never found this necessary in my playtime as I get enough components from events and such.

Regarding permanent resource sinks, barter mats are tied to the player and do not affect the economy. , except for rare mats, which can be sold or bought on the auction house. I recommend this as a good money maker. Supplies don't need a sink, if you have too many, just trash them. Artifacts are sunk by selling to the fence, broken down for energy or through their use by players. Rubles are sunk in buying gear and supplies from NPCs, as well as from the auction house tax, keeping the economy in check. I have not noticed any substantial inflation issues with the game.
