What to do with steel plates?

I find it funny that this is a looter shooter and you can't sell anything other than monster parts.
At least in the early game.

You can sell everything on the market. If anyone wants to buy it is another option, I do wish we could sell everything to a merchant even if it was just 1-10 rubbles.

What do you use them for

You can always use them for cheap pve grind, sell them on the market for cheap (easy money as your rep goes up items cost you less and can be sold at a profit to the new players), or just toss them on the floor/ignore them.
Personally I only use steel plates if I ran out while in the field and found them.

Open up your inventory and at the bottom of your armour that you're wearing there's a slot, drag it in there.
I think you can take them out as well but I forget.

Yes you can unslot armor plates, just right click the armor go to modify and you can pull them out that way, or you can just shift click in a different plate.

Steel plates are completely worthless though. Early game, they're better than nothing but only just barely. Wait till you get to Rostok, the floor there is practically paved with them from people just throwing them on the ground.

No point in selling them on the AH as newbies (aka the only people with any reason to touch them) can't even access the AH till they get to Cordon and by then they can get better plates.
