To join a subfaction you need to talk to the gear merchant in the 100 Rads bar that you unlock after reaching level 7 of the Bar. In the dangerous zones like Red Forest, Yanov and Limansk (when the latter is added) only members of your subfaction are friendly, meaning if you venture there as a regular stalker or a bandit, it will be a complete free-for-all. Furthermore, each subfaction has a base closer to the North (aka endgame areas) so you spend less time running there than from the Bar. Additionally, player clans (are to be added soon) are locked to subfactions so to join/create one, you need to become a member of a subfaction and Clan Wars are one of the primary endgame activities so eventually you’d want to join one.
- sub faction encampments provide 30 dopestone
- not everyone in the north will outright kill you
- Better Base placement
- Cool sub faction gear
Down Side
- By having friends in the north you are adding enemies to the south. If you have farming below city or graveyard its probably best to wait
- Joining early just hurts you
you say coll sub faction gear. does it mean different Body suits? (exoskelletons) ?
