Waypoint fuel
So I'm a bit confused on the Waypoints requiring a constant log input, at a pretty high rate as well. Is the idea really to create a separate logging camp and have it hauled to the waypoint for each individual one? Are there more efficient fuel sources later on?

In my current game I'm just about to hit rocky sparks, and by the time I seriously considered powering multiple waypoints for ease of travel, I was already mostly done with the grasslands as a biome.

It strikes me as odd since its not like being able to teleport is a massive boon gameplay wise, it just cuts down on a lot of walking between the different shrines. I really don't think it needs to be gated as much.

Hey there! Actually there are also other resources you can use as fuel. The item entries in your notebook provide you with information about whether it is burnable as well as its burn rate (indicating differences in efficiency).
A small correction: In the current public build in fact only wood and coal are burnable - the addition of other burnable resources is something for the next update. Sorry for the confusion!
I'm waking this because the current system for fuelling waypoints is game-breakingly unfun and needs to be changed ASAP

Fuel should be "per trip" - not a constant sink - and it should be supplyable by the player or automated by sparks (e.g. you can carry transport money)

The early game is WAY WAY too 'grindy walky' and this really doesn't change because supplying waypoints is often difficult/awkward

I'm fine walking around to gather stuff/discover stuff but having to walk RIGHT across the map because I'm deep in the mountains and need some wood is just annoying

The first 10 hours is WAY WAY too grindy IMO - making waypoints more usable would help this quite-a-bit - and wouldn't be a tough thing to fix.

As-is - I'll often quit because I'm a couple of things short and done walking around the place

p.s. I don't mind the way this game is quite 'manual' - it's not a machine optimisation puzzle - and I don't mind exploring but the 20th time I need to walk the entire width of the map for 2 items is the time I wish I'd refunded earlier...
It's probably a little dependent on the map layout, but you could just create some temporary woodcutters near a waypoint and throw some sparks on it. One woodcutter with like 2 or 3 stumpy sparks (possibly more depending on the distance) can keep a waypoint fueled indefinitely.
I can only agree with what the others said.

The combination of:
- Randomly generated map
- Waypoints to be allowed on specific locations only
- Waypoints needing constant fueling
- Fuel ressources random location
makes it sometimes (if not often) really difficult and mostly FRUSTRATING to fuel waypoints.
You regularly have to set train lines just to bring fuel to the waypoints, this is so unfun and frustrating.
This is frustrating because these train lines don't help at all for the automation part of the game. They are just required to simplify the player's movements with fast travel. Worst fast travel mechanics I've seen in a game yet...

I'm at the hot/cold biomes right now but I have to create long train lines in order to fuel the waypoints in these biomes if I don't want to spend most of my time walking, it just makes me wanting to leave the game.
Maybe I'll unlock some tech later on allowing me to get infinite fuel ressources directly from these biomes, but I can't right now and I'm losing the motivation to reach these techs, if they exist.
Well, there's 1. More efficient fuel (to the tune of only needing 2 per minute) and 2. Buildable waypoints that greatly open up location options...so that should address a few of your points? I just build a train loop around the map fully, which helped a lot with fuel distribution, but of course that isn't available for a little while, but the options are there.
Thank you for the advice, but as you just said it: you had to build a train loop, that you need to extend whenever you want to add waypoints.
And having to build a whole train loop for the sole purpose of fast travelling is exactly my concern.

Of course I thought of having a mass production of charcoal from the western forest that would supply with a train the whole map: but on my opining it adds nothing to the game on terms of automation, it's just another stone adding up to the frustration bag with other missing QOLs features of the game that sucks out a big part of the enjoyment I get playing this game.
And I'm on the edge of leaving the game, hoping for a future update addressing these issues, eventhough on paper the game has everything to offer that would suit me.
Not really...from the main loop it's only like a minute or two of work to add another waypoint to it....station setups are super fast. Also it's not really like you need to power up every waypoint on the map...I think I have maybe 5-6 powered (most I placed myself) and it's good enough.
