Male Character Creation Option
Noticed during creation process the characters are more gender neutral-ish or femine, including hair style options. I realize this isn't the most crucial thing given you don't really see your character too often, but since there is a character selection process at all, it would be nice to be able to select between male/female or if not that criteria specifically, allow for masculine traits and hair styles with it.

I'd definitely appreciate that. I'd day the character looks male or androgynous no matter the options you use, but that just shows the problem given you say the opposite.

several facial hair options

All hair styles are femine/pseudo femine in nature for what you can see. Braids, bobs, quiff etc. Sure you can put a mustache on, but doing so on a bob female haircut looks, questionable at best.

Hello! We don't plan for any distinction between male or female in the character editor. The idea is that the body itself doesn't suggest any clear gender in neither direction but the (facial) hair styles allow you to lean in one direction or another (or at least what people often associate with a specific gender).

You are able to unlock more and more (facial) hair styles throughout the game. Looking at the character editor right now I'd say there is a equal balance along the spectrum - many people might associate the "Quiff" or "Pointed" with a male character and "Braids" or the two "Bangs" options as rather female.

We will most likely add more hair styles along the way. If there is any specific hair style missing to you, I can forward this to our art team and we can see what we can do!

When I was creating my character, I also didn't feel like any of the hairstyles felt masculine. I assumed that the intent was to force the player to make a female character.

And I'm fine with that.

But if that's not the intention, perhaps more work needs to be put towards this.

Yeah, in my opinion, I'd almost rather then scrap character creation at all if they are going to be biased to one side for it. No one tends to object if playing a game where the story is a female lead. You know that going in and people are fine with it. If having character creation, it seems rather basic to at least offer options that are both masculine and feminine in nature if trying to avoid the 'male' or 'female' titles.

I wouldn't care either if the gender was set, like satisfactory for instance, though you'd be surprised at the number of people for whom playing as a female character is somehow intolerable.

M/F options are also used when putting in sound effects like a ya! or ha! sound effect when moving around if you add those in the future. Uh, assuming it doesn't already have them and I'm forgetting.

Not to mention that some people will probably want to have females with short hair or guys with long hair (as an example), right now we just don't have that option.

If you're not going to give us gender options, you should at least give us a breast slider and the ability to adjust the eyes, nose and mouth to make them look more masculine or feminine. And a randomization option, because I sure don't know how to adjust them to make a character look masculine or feminine.

Side note, I'd like a pull back/down the hood hood option, all those bobs or w/e just look dumb to me. That'd also allow long hair options better.

I definitely noticed and appreciated the gender-neutralness of the character editor, but I do think that some more hairstyle options would go a long way. From what I recall that stuck out to me more than anything else. I really like the idea of it remaining neutral, but I think there is a need for a few more options so we can allow our character to express their identity appropriately.

So while I am not a fan of the gender neutral thing, I am all for them making a game where you are happy, I am happy and the next guy/gal is happy with the character creation. As stated above, it isn't terrible today, but a few more options would be helpful and allow more players to identify with the character.

Goatee.

I couldn't make any clean shaven version look male.

Gender is in the eye of the beholder in this case I think ^^*

I did notice this.. Its very hard, if not impossible to make a male looking avatar..
klaxas77 May 14, 2024 @ 2:36pm
agree here. it is difficult to impossible to make a male looking character. even the facial hair options only do a little bit to mitigate the problem. most facial hair looks like a woman with facial hair.

having said that, I love this game! I do hope they fix this in the future though.
Prometheus0000 May 14, 2024 @ 3:39pm
Also, not every guy has or wants to have facial hair. The idea of needing to add them to make the character more masculine is very backwards. I just don't understand, is it so hard to make a slightly different character model? I'd understand if you said you don't have time during EA, but you haven't.
