But with that having been said, GamePass is a garbage service, and considering that it's lost millions of subscribers (something Microsoft doesn't mention in this year's rosy review), I think gamers are keying into this idea as well.
I want to be clear that the below is pure conjecture. But, I think GamePass is bleeding money, has proven itself to be unsustainable and that Microsoft is now realizing that they forgot to pack a parachute. I think the entire platform is headed towards collapse, and that Microsoft doesn't know how to make it profitable or sustainable.
So I think the closure of some of these smaller studios was an effort to buy themselves a little more time.
If someone sells a product you want, you should buy it. But with that having been said, I don't expect to give Microsoft any more money anytime soon. I should go remove Sea of Thieves from my wishlist >.>
Its not about making money,
Its about making MORE AND MORE MONEY so the growth line goes up and executive bonuses go BRRRR.
A game like this doesn't keep making money for cheaper costs like a live-service title.
You can't sell a sparkkly pony for 25 bucks here and make more money than Star Craft 2 Wings of Liberty (btw real stat...)
Its because the parent company is stock traded....
Because it's not enough for investors to make a fortune from a product or service. They have to make THE MAXIMUM AMOUNT OF MONEY!!!! They have to pry every red cent from every person they can, every chance that they get (#MICROTRANSACTIONS), and anything less is failure.
And the irony here is that the Xbox brand... was SOLID for a time! I think we'd all agree that the 360 was the golden era of the brand, because they delivered the most powerful console hardware of that generation, had a robust online ecosystem, and had all the right devs and games at the table.
And then one day, an investor pointed at Nintendo and said "Yeah, but they're doing better than we are. FAILURE!!!!"
And then the Kinect happen, and Microsoft has been chasing its tail ever since.
Classic case of too much and never enough.
They hate all of us, stop giving them your money.
