Air attacks don't rebound off of Z-Shielding. You're welcome.
I wish someone would told me that before i comppleted an entire game…
2. The game's fights are all cleverly designed around this aspect; They never EXCLUSIVELY use these enemies. There's ALWAYS other enemies for you to focus on, meaning you're just juggling between which enemy you're fighting during cooldown which means the flow doesn't get interrupted.
Plus the game doesn't EXPECT you to keep a permanent combo going. Rewards you, sure, but landing long combos on a single enemy is always more worthwhile.
I never used this once and damn that would've been nice to remember.
This isn't true, you can't summon a partner for a parry counter if they're still on Cooldown.
1) Magnet Backstab can put you behind enemies that hold physical Z-Shields and you can stun and juggle them without ever having to break their shields; focus your Macaron calls on the enemies whose entire bodies are covered with Z-Shielding.
2) Following up a parry with a partner counter will completely destroy a Barrier or Z-Shielding in one strike; at the beginning of a fight you can just bait out an easy-to-parry attack and eliminate their defences in one action. Once you get better at the game, this becomes second-nature!
3) Every special attack in the game has hidden properties that affect Barriers and Z-Shielding differently; Pick Slide will instantly break either of them as long as you're close enough. Some specials will do one or two instances of damage to Barriers or Z-Shielding; for example, although Peppermint's Double Riff special has an obvious benefit against Barriers and is guaranteed to break them, it also will half-destroy Z-Shielding!
I think this is why they decided to make Macaron's special attack a non-offensive one; because he has the longest cooldown, there are many specials you can perform then immediately follow up with Macaron to instantly break Z-Shielding! Of course feel free to experiment in the training mode to figure out which specials work best for you!
Special attacks breaks shields regardless of type (hibiki for example)
Partner counters break shields in 1 hit for their specific type
Magnet backstab gets around front facing shields
Jam combos break shields in 1 hit for their specific type
There's chips to shorten cool downs or remove it entirely at the cost of meter.
The activation of blue shields constitutes as an attack, so you can parry them and break them. . .
