Not true actually, Sony and Microsoft both take a 30% cut on each game sale which is exactly how much Steam takes. The only money they might lose by being exclusive is from the lack of sales on other platforms.
Devs do push for that, when they don't have the exclusivity deals. But when they do, they probably get paid more for the deal than they would from selling it on other consoles anyway, it's obviously not always the case like when a game does unexpectedly well but it's definitely safer not to risk that and then sell it on other consoles later once you know it's worth it. And often if a game is good enough, people will buy the console for it and that's really their ultimate goal. And it does work, people bought an Xbox just to be disappointed by Starfield.
Also on another note, for devs, developing for one console is MUCH easier than developing for all consoles. It's what allows them to push their games to the limit and take advantage of the hardware instead of having to cut things because one of the consoles can't handle it.
ideally, a game, if multi-platform should release on all platforms at the same time.
making pc gamers wait a couple of years sucks.
especially when we know how many millions of copies have already sold.
do they really need to delay a pc release? no. but they do because they are
greedy.
like, why even have X game as a timed exclusive when they know X game will sell very well on X console.
all it does is piss off the platform that has to wait ages for their release.
are the corp suits so insecure that they think if they order a pc release at the same time it will somehow dent the console sales?
i don't get why insomniac can't push them for a pc release sooner rather than later.
i guess they love money more than giving everyone a chance to play on release.
if anyone is to blame for the long ass wait it's sony.
i feel sorry for the xbox crowd as they don't get to play at all.
but then again, they have halo. (such as it is right now)
we had to wait a loooooooonnnnggg time for the mcc to come to pc and tbh it was not worth the wait. (the lack of splitscreen) and infinite turned out to be garbage and 5 they couldn't even be bothered to port.
these were reasons i cut ties with owning an xbox. when you treat pc as the after thought, you don't deserve support. i'm annoyed the dodgy port of halo ce back in the day didn't include splitscreen or the vista halo 2 port.
like how much of an ahole do you have to be to deny simple features when porting to the platform that the games are developed on in the first place?
opps...gone off track a bit...
SPIDER-MAN 2 PC NOW OR SOON!!! please. (not that my rant will change minds)
one can dream of equal releases and no exclusives.
perhaps in an alternative universe there are pc gamer's already playing spider-man 2 and also playing halo splitscreen on pc.
but that universe no longer exists as it was pruned.
