The first fix was to increase the page file size on my computer. I set it to 16GB manually and then I could get past the instant crashing when I was fast traveling.
The second fix for me that caused some crashes was to disable Nvidia overlay from Geforce Experience. (Other overlays could possibly cause issues too)
So I reinstalled and even THAT didn't bring the menu back, however even though I can't see the menu I can navigate it. Since "Continue" is the first option, just press enter or w.e it is for Steam Deck and it should load you into the game regardless.
I'll definitely give these a try once I land em
Having exactly the same issues on my sons steamdeck, the game was working fine without issues for 3.5 hours of playtime then battery ran out while he was playing and now whenever loading save the same bug where menu loads behind the black loading screen... as post above states if you press A straight away the game loads in fine to continue the last save and strangely if you then exit, the menu appears fine as it should.
If anyone comes across a more permanent fix please post on here I cant seem to find any further solutions on line and thanks @No Philter was a good temp fix so he can keep playing for now :)
Running into this same issue on steam deck, haven't found a fix for it yet
