Is it a decent little JRPG? Sure. Overpriced, but still fun. It's got /no/ replayibility and you can do everything in a single run, and there aren't any secrets to find sadly.
But it is a terrible "farming life simulation" from start to finish. So that's why it gets a lot of heat; it wasn't anything what a lot of people thought it was going to be.
That said, I hope the company makes another down the road. They've got some good bones to work with moving forward.
To be honest i think they did over brand the life sim aspects of it but i think what they meant was more a time management sim as you do spend some full days watering crops and making dishes that best suit your party at that current time rather than a full life sim like Stardew or harvest moon. I think they just wanted it to be creative with an aspect that makes you feel like you gotta do things sooner than later giving small buffs people in normal JRPGs skip over with the food system and a crafting system making it so you have to go back to previous areas to explore more to feel like you've fully done the area after your already deep into the story. So i do disagree with you a little but i really do agree that these are really strong bones that will now shape new games in the future from square with this time management structure if they do make another game like it :3
You've got a good cast of characters, there's crafting, side quests, some busywork, and it's not a bad time. It's just not what a lot of people wanted.
Now... even if it isn't what I wanted, I'd take this over Rune Factory 5 any day of the week. That one has much more focus on the farming/social aspects with a main story that's super short. If you took this game and mashed it with that, then we'd have a winner winner chicken dinner on our hands.
Either way, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Harvestella 2. There's plenty they can expand upon or have it be a series loosely related in different worlds +^+
The game tried to do everything but end up excel at nothing.
Music is good, story is okay.
Overall 6/10
Not worth the price tag. Buy it on sale.
Edit :
Forgot to mention that character creation is the worst ive ever seen.
For people who dont care character customization i say this game got the worst preset character if you treat it that way
I really think you don't get the point of the game tho. The game itself isn't bad at all. Tbh its very good. It surpasses a lot of older JRPGs made by square by miles and miles with a story that is very strongly pointed that fits very in place with who square enix is and what they strive for in their games. i think judging a game on a price tag is very silly since art is art, If you want to experience the art then pay up. Because in the end review bombing a game with charm when you could just refund the game if it isn't your pace is silly since it detours other players who want to scratch an old JRPG itch that they've had forever and by just ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ on the game it makes it so nobody in the end will even try to enjoy the game. Plus if they add content it'll just turn into a redemption story where people with your thinking will gate keep the game like cyberpunk and no mans sky. In my opinion I think people like yourself and others who dislike the game should give it another go and make sure to write in your own opinion because just bashing a game doesn't make the devs wanna get better. It really just kills player bases and causes even ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ games to come out since nobody is even will to take the devs art seriously. I think people should think rather than bandwagon. and I'm not saying you should have to pay 60$ but if you don't like the art. Don't just blindly hate on it. Write something constructive or just refund it if you don't like it.
I knew beforehand what kind of game it was, because I took a look at the actual reviews and promo's. I knew it was mainly a JRPG with some farming mechanics that are mainly there to generate money and materials needed to create healing and buff items. I certainly did not expected a Rune Factory or something similar. If people where expecting that, they did not do their "homework" before buying this game. They only have themselves to blame for that.
I do not think this game is really overpriced. It's just right into the "slot" where most JRPG's are situated. Nothing out of the ordinary. If you really want to see a overpriced game, then take a look at Forspoken that has an unbelievable hefty €80 price tag, bland game play for the PS demo, unknown game play for the PC (because of no demo) and on top of that some ridiculous Denuvo DRM garbage.
And the so called lack of voice acting? Well - I played LOTS of JRPG's that where completely silent, or where the "voice" was only some "beepbeepbeepbeep". Some are only partially voiced, and I think that feels "cheaper" than no voice at all. So that's that.
In short - I don't see why people would be mad at this game. I certainly ain't...
I wish it was sold more as a loveletter to classic JRPG's, which includes Harvest Moon, rather than as a farming sim with JRPG elements like a Rune Factory competitor. Or as a JRPG with farming elements.
People then end up judging it based on their expectations, instead of for what it is.
But IMO it's a fantastic game and though it felt pricey for the production quality, but I don't mind that so much if I am getting my money's worth in hours and enjoyment and doesn't break the £50 limit I'll spend on a new game and doesn't have some BS monetisation attached to it. And in this case I got my money's worth.
Then you've also got people hung up on the character creator, like it's barebones as heck with very few options, but IMO it's not essential, because I doubt it'd have got complaints if it was a set protagonist.
I just hope it doesn't fall into obscurity as an underrated game and gets enough love for the developers to do more, like expansions/DLC or/and a sequel.
when all is said and done i would love to see another game to the series; with more custom options for characters, simple ones, not a fan of rat tails on the side
this series has alot of potential, i would love to see more as well .
All that said, I am still mostly enjoying myself, despite the numerous issues I have with this title, and no, I am not going to list them here. Others already have, and my first two statements pretty much sums up the problems. I won't be recommending it at its current price, though.
-The town looks like FF14 (Plus in my eyes)
-But the character model is female or ..androgynous? to me it looks like a a female body aiming for a male-esk pose, the walking looks more like a drag queen.
I'm a man that like to play as a masculine character, unless the story is about a female/non binary then I'm happy playing as that person for the story.
But when the game asks if you are male, female or non binary then says well look female or non binary only it irks me, If the game had said you are non-binary because that's what the story is I would of acceptabled it.
-The outfits are either masculine or feminine depending on who you go the job off.
again I'm a man that likes to dress masculine, so I like to play that.
again if the game had said you are non binary crossdresser I would of accepted it.
Also for those that will target me, I am gay, I have trans, non binary, gay & straight friends, I'm not anti anything.
-The story is written like it's their 2nd language or poorly translated.
The dialogue is snore feast
-The cutscenes etc are all unskippable and have delays before you can go to the next sentence
-It feels like a first time developer made an EA game that got to 1.0 ok
Honestly I got about an hour in & quit
Who wouldn't want to "review bomb" a game if it meant
getting sentimental speeches like this out of people? XD trollololololol
Your 2nd and 3rd points are 100% the reason I didn't buy this game.
