Legitimate complaints:
Lack of customization. I expected way more choices considering the price. You don't get to choose your hairstyle. Male model has the longer hairstyle. You can choose one of a few skin color pre-sets, some hair color presets and eye color presets. You can choose if you have the male or female voice. I don't think it's unreasonable to request more hairstyle options. My hope is that they add a stylist to the town in a patch with hairstyle options.
Time constraints. Omg, time goes by REALLY fast. And it's one of those games that you are NOT allowed to be out past a certain time of night. An option to slow that the heck down would also be nice.
Both of those are relatively minor (and subjective as some like those kinda things) and would not really stop me from buying the game. But I will be vocal about asking for them to change those two things.
The story is really good so far. It's more jrpg with farming than a farming game with a little story tacked on.
You don't get the option to save outside of the autosave when sleeping until you advance the story a little. That's annoying, but it DOES happen not too far into the game. So if anyone is worried, that is addressed.
You're saying they should make it free?
You DO realize that free to play games like Genshin Impact make money from people buying stuff in game and the game being designed around 'needing' to, right? And that the game would be entirely different were it actually designed that way, right?
Heck no. For it to be free like Genshin Impact it means we have to deal with gatcha or some terrible monetisation scheme because people don't work for free and they'd have to make money somehow.
I am VERY happy when developers keep this stuff out of games. It has ruined the mobile games market and has bled onto PC gaming more. It can sod off as far as I am concerned. Gatcha affectsthe gameplay loop and is tweaked to incentivise you to pay and overall gives a different experience. I'd probably even play Genshin Impact if I could pay an upfront fee, get none of the gatcha BS, not lose out on anything and then only pay extra for additional content and expansions.
I am happy just paying money for a game and getting a game and no BS. There is fair argument for Harvestella to be cheaper because the production value doesn't feel like a £50 game, but I definitely got the hours for it to be worth it.
I have over 110 hours in this game now. I haven't been this passionate about a game in years. I want to share it with everyone.
For me, it's everything awesome and beautiful about Square Enix rolled into one package.
The story is incredible, detailed, and very well-thought-out. There are almost no loose ends -- pretty much everything is explained. It doesn't always explain it gracefully, which is my one complaint, but I ended up with only one unanswered question by the time I was done.
In my opinion, it easily reaches the heights of games like Legend of Dragoon, Grandia II, and Skies of Arcadia.
Cross-class and teammate passives really made me think about what classes to equip and what characters to bring. I loved that.
The gameplay stayed fresh to me. Combat involves three main things:
-Builds, which consist of your class choices, accessories, and teammates.
-Killing normal enemies as fast (and as safely) as possible.
-Staggering your combo (and/or managing your cast times) to avoid animation-lock during boss fights.
Because there's no dodge roll or guard ability, combat is all about doing mechanics and mitigating damage while maintaining uptime.
Sometimes a tough enemy would aggressively focus me, and I'd start trading, Dark Souls-style. Fights would go from tactical, mobile affairs to full unga bunga and just furiously cranking out DPS.
The result is: I end up engaging with a wider array of mechanics and making lots of meaningful decisions in a short amount of time. Every system here feels like it has some kind of impact on how I fight.
Outside of combat, I felt the need to balance my stats and budget. During combat, I was balancing my damage output and mobility.
It's this constant balancing act that keeps things exciting.
That's the real magic for me, apart from the story.
I don't find it that bad no. People complain a lot about it, but my computer ain't fancy and runs it just fine. The story is fun and you can focus on farming more than story if you really want, but some things are locked behind story.
People have said it ain't a farming sim, but you do the same thing as any farm sim. Tend to your crops daily and sell em for coin to get more crops.
This story just has a lot more action. But you don't have to really continue the story if you want to focus on farming. Nothing changes till you progress the story after all.
Progressing the story on the other hand, is a good way to unlock all your farm plots. For that, you do need to finish the first part of the game. Get fairies and all that. I won't say more cause spoilers. But you could progress story till you get em all, and there is still a lot more to go after that.
